In a bizarre and controversial turn of events, a woman from Busia County has declared that she is Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, living again in human form.
Judith Nafula, a devout Catholic from Nangoma village in Matayos Constituency, stunned many when she publicly claimed that she had been chosen and identified by Jesus himself as the Holy Mother Mary.
According to Nafula, this revelation came after a divine experience in which she was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Speaking during an interview with NTV, Nafula narrated a surreal encounter where a heavenly light descended from the sky, and within it stood Jesus. She said the figure spoke to her directly, asking where Mother Mary was.
Confused, she replied that she did not know. Jesus then reportedly told her that she was Mary, and that it was time the world came to know her true identity.
“A bright light came down from heaven, and Jesus was in the middle of it,” Nafula explained. “He asked me where Mother Mary was. I told him I didn’t know. Then He said, ‘It’s you. You are the one,’ and that God had sent Him to reveal this secret.”
After that spiritual moment, Nafula said she was led by divine direction to a nearby hill, where she stayed for two months. During that time, she claims to have been in constant communication with the Holy Spirit, receiving guidance and spiritual instructions.
In a dramatic twist, her husband, John Wekullo, also said he experienced the same vision. He claimed that God revealed to him that he was Joseph—the biblical husband of Mary. Wekullo stood by his wife, saying he fully believes in her spiritual transformation and identity.
Following these events, Nafula said she began performing miracles, something that drew the attention—and criticism—of her local church.
The church leadership, however, was not supportive. They accused her of being mentally unstable and eventually removed her from the congregation.
“They started calling me mad and claimed I had lost my mind. They kicked me out of the church,” Nafula said with disappointment.
Despite being rejected by her church, Nafula’s story quickly spread beyond her village. Curious residents and people from surrounding areas started visiting her home to witness her alleged miracles and receive prayers.
According to her family members, especially her sister-in-law, many people have started believing in her and have testified about miraculous healings and answered prayers.
“People have been returning to her, saying they received healing and blessings. Women who couldn’t conceive are now pregnant, and sick people are recovering. We are witnessing wonders,” said Nafula’s sister-in-law.
While such claims have been made by others in the past—people declaring themselves to be divine figures such as Jesus or God—many Kenyans have often dismissed them as false prophets or accused them of committing blasphemy.
Still, Nafula’s growing popularity and the testimonies surrounding her are leaving some people curious and others divided about what to believe.
The story continues to spark heated debate, especially in religious circles, as Kenyans question whether Nafula’s claims are a true divine calling or another case of religious deception.
