MP Bernard Kitur Says His Life Is in Danger After Exposing Kidney Transplant Syndicate

Nandi Hills MP Bernard Kitur has come forward with serious allegations, claiming that his life is under threat due to his efforts to expose and bring justice to an illegal organ transplant syndicate believed to be operating from a private hospital in Eldoret.

The hospital is suspected of being involved in unauthorized kidney transplants, where poor and vulnerable individuals are targeted.

Kitur made these claims while appearing before the National Assembly Health Committee on Thursday, June 5. He was present to assist in an ongoing investigation into the matter.

The legislator told the committee that threats and intimidation against him have continued, with the most recent incident happening on Wednesday evening, just a day before the meeting.

He explained that these threats are not just coming from the hospital management, but also from detectives in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and even from some local leaders who appear to be protecting the syndicate.

He narrated an incident that occurred on Wednesday night, where his official government vehicle was followed and blocked in Eldoret near the Brookside area. The vehicle was stopped by DCI officers in a government car.

“When I received more information about this syndicate, my security situation changed. Just yesterday evening, my safety was compromised again,” Kitur told the committee.

“The people who tried to intimidate me include the Uasin Gishu County Police Commander, the DCIO, and his team. At around 11:30 PM on Wednesday, my official vehicle was blocked near Brookside by a DCI car.”

The MP added that he was not in the vehicle at the time of the incident, but his staff members were inside. They were returning to his office after collecting important documents related to the case.

He named two individuals involved in the ambush — DCI officer Osman Ndiema and a driver. According to Kitur, the officers had been tracking the vehicle and intentionally cornered it.

He went further to accuse Kesses MP Swarup Mishra of being behind the intimidation. Kitur claimed that the county police boss and the DCI officers were working under instructions from Mishra, suggesting political interference in the investigations.

While addressing the committee, Kitur detailed how he became aware of the kidney trafficking operation. He said two victims personally reached out to him and shared their disturbing experiences. According to the MP, the victims were promised large sums of money in exchange for their kidneys.

Kitur revealed that both victims had their national ID cards taken away and were instead issued foreigner (alien) ID cards by the hospital. These were allegedly used to manipulate or falsify their medical documents.

In one specific case, Kitur explained that a victim was promised Ksh1.2 million in exchange for a kidney. However, the person only received Ksh50,000 before undergoing the operation and was given Ksh400,000 afterward. The remaining amount has never been paid, leaving the victim shortchanged and betrayed.

The MP also said that the victims are now facing serious threats and pressure from people who want them to stay silent. They have been offered bribes and other forms of intimidation to prevent them from speaking out or testifying against those involved.

The wider organ trafficking network, which stretches beyond Kenya, was first brought to light in April through a joint investigative report by international media houses including Deutsche Welle (DW), ZDF, and Der Spiegel from Germany.

Their investigation revealed that foreign patients pay as much as $200,000 (about Ksh25.9 million) to receive illegally harvested organs from poor Kenyans, many of whom are unaware of the full consequences.

Kitur’s revelations have added a shocking layer to the growing concern over human organ trafficking in Kenya. The MP has now asked the government and relevant authorities to ensure his safety and that of the victims, so that justice can prevail.
