Six Tourists Killed in Tragic Accident on Ol Jororok–Nakuru Road
At least six people, believed to be tourists, lost their lives in a tragic road accident that occurred on Monday, June 9, along the Ol Jororok–Nakuru road.
The horrifying crash took place in the afternoon and involved a vehicle transporting what authorities suspect was a group of tourists.
The vehicle reportedly lost control before rolling several times and finally landing in a ditch. The force of the crash was so intense that the roof of the bus was completely torn off, as seen in circulating photos and videos from the scene.
Among those who died in the accident at Gichaka area were four men, one woman, and a child. In addition to the fatalities, at least 27 other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Many of them were said to be in critical condition.
Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdlisack Jardesa confirmed the deadly crash and stated that the victims had been heading toward a hotel in Nyahururu, where they were expected to rest briefly before continuing with their journey.
“We have so far confirmed that six people died in the accident. At the moment, we are still working to determine their nationalities.
The survivors are receiving treatment at Nyahururu Hospital, and we’ll share more updates as investigations continue,” Commissioner Jardesa said.
Eyewitnesses who saw the incident unfold described how the bus was driving normally before it suddenly lost control shortly after a rain shower began.
One of the witnesses claimed that the bus started to skid and roll several times before finally stopping after crashing into a tree, which likely prevented even more severe injuries.
Authorities have already launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that adverse weather conditions and possible human error may have contributed to the crash.
Investigators are now trying to establish whether the driver may have been speeding or whether the vehicle was properly maintained.
Interestingly, this was not the only fatal road incident reported on Monday. Earlier the same day, another crash occurred when a Metrotrans matatu veered off the road along Kiambu Road.
The matatu reportedly lost control in a notoriously dangerous area known for steep slopes and sharp bends.
Road safety experts and local authorities have frequently warned motorists to be extra careful when driving on Kiambu Road, especially near the section that runs from the DCI headquarters toward Karura Forest.
This stretch is considered a high-risk zone due to its winding paths and steep inclines, which make it prone to accidents, particularly in wet or slippery conditions.
With two serious crashes reported in one day, authorities are once again urging all drivers to observe road safety rules, reduce speed during bad weather, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before setting out on any journey.
