Super Metro Sacco has broken its silence following a road accident involving one of its buses that overturned along the busy Thika Superhighway.

The incident occurred near Burudani Address in Juja and resulted in injuries to several passengers, causing panic among commuters and creating a major traffic jam along the highway.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 10, Super Metro clarified that the accident was caused by a speeding lorry that lost control and hit the bus. According to preliminary investigations, the lorry was swerving at high speed before it rammed into the Super Metro bus, causing it to veer off the road and overturn.

“We deeply regret to inform the public that one of our buses was involved in an accident this morning along Juja Road. Initial findings indicate that the lorry involved was speeding and swerving uncontrollably before it crashed into our bus,” the statement read.

The bus was on its way to Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) from Juja Town, and was using the service lane when the collision occurred.

Super Metro Emphasizes Passenger Safety

In its public communication, Super Metro reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest safety standards for both passengers and other road users. The company insisted that passenger well-being remains their top priority, and that all protocols were followed during the incident.

“At Super Metro Limited, safety is our utmost concern. We are committed to responsible transport practices and ensuring the safety of our customers and the public at large,” the sacco emphasized.

Authorities Take Over Investigation

Super Metro further revealed that the matter was immediately reported to Juja Police Station, and that they are fully cooperating with the police in the ongoing investigations.

“The incident has been reported to Juja Police Station. We are working hand-in-hand with the authorities to determine the full circumstances of the crash and ensure that appropriate action is taken,” they added.

The company advised anyone seeking additional information about the crash to contact Juja Police Station directly, where the official case is being handled.

No Lives Lost, Minor Injuries Reported

Fortunately, no fatalities were reported from the accident. However, Super Metro confirmed that two people sustained minor injuries. Emergency teams, well-wishers, and nearby residents quickly rushed to the scene to help evacuate passengers and offer first aid while waiting for medics to arrive.

Images and videos shared online captured the chaos that followed the accident. Cries for help could be heard from inside the overturned bus as rescuers worked swiftly to remove the injured. Several passengers, including the bus driver and those seated at the front, had to crawl out through the shattered windscreen to escape.

The incident sparked concern among road users and raised fresh questions about road safety on the Thika Superhighway — one of Kenya’s busiest and most accident-prone highways.
