Kingi Pressures Murkomen Over Albert Ojwang’s Death, Demands Sworn Testimony

Kingi Pressures Murkomen Over Albert Ojwang’s Death, Orders Sworn Statements Before Senate

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has intensified scrutiny on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen regarding the mysterious death of Albert Ojwang, demanding that Murkomen and other top security officials deliver their statements under oath.

The decision came after Senators Edwin Sifuna and Moses Kajwang pushed for accountability in the case, urging that Murkomen, the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) chief Mohamed Amin take a formal oath before appearing in front of the Senate to provide their testimonies.

Speaker Kingi agreed with the recommendation and emphasized that only through sworn testimonies could the Senate uncover the truth behind Ojwang’s controversial death.

“Based on what Senator Kajwang has just raised, our mission here is to uncover the truth—nothing more, nothing less,” Kingi stated firmly. “And the best way to ensure honesty and transparency is by having all statements made under oath.”

Turning to the Senate staff, he directed, “Clerk of the Senate, please proceed to administer the oath to the officials before we begin this critical session.”

Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, who represents the county where the late Albert Ojwang came from, led the call for invoking Article 125 of the Constitution. This article gives Parliament the power to summon individuals and compel them to provide truthful information under oath.

Kajwang stressed that failure to administer the oath could have serious legal and ethical consequences, warning that issues like contempt of Parliament and perjury—both of which are considered criminal offences—could compromise the integrity of the Senate proceedings.

By taking this step, the Senate aims to ensure that all testimonies regarding the circumstances of Ojwang’s death are factual, verifiable, and free from manipulation, as the nation watches closely for answers.
