Tragedy in Nairobi: Man Throws 5-Year-Old Baby from Balcony

Residents of a Nairobi estate are heartbroken and in mourning following the tragic death of five-year-old Amanda Mutheu, a bright young girl whose life was cut short in a horrifying incident.

The heartbreaking event unfolded on Thursday night and has left the entire community in deep shock and anger.

According to several eyewitnesses, the little girl was killed by someone she trusted deeply—her own uncle.

On that fateful evening, the man, whom police have confirmed as her maternal uncle, is said to have stormed into their home while heavily intoxicated. At the time, baby Mutheu was in the care of her nanny.

Witnesses said the man appeared disturbed and agitated when he arrived. Without any warning, he began causing chaos inside the house. He then violently confronted the nanny, overpowering her and snatching Amanda from her arms.

Alarmed and sensing something terrible was about to happen, the nanny ran outside screaming for help from neighbors and estate security guards.

Sadly, before anyone could intervene, the man went ahead and threw the child from the apartment balcony, leading to a tragic and irreversible outcome.

In a statement issued by the estate’s management, it was confirmed that security personnel patrolling the area, together with concerned neighbors who had responded to the house help’s distress calls, rushed to the scene. They managed to restrain the man and quickly contacted the police.

Enraged by the man’s shocking and cruel actions, members of the community attacked him, beating him severely in an act of mob justice.

The mob was clearly furious and wanted to take matters into their own hands. However, police officers from Kahawa West Police Station arrived just in time to rescue him from the angry crowd. They then took him into custody.

Despite the overwhelming evidence, the suspect denied any wrongdoing. In a video shared by Kenyans.co.ke, the man claimed that he did not harm the girl. Instead, he argued that he loved his niece very much and could never have done such a thing.

He insisted that what he had thrown from the balcony was not Amanda but a doll. “I did not throw Mutheu. I love her so much. What I threw was a doll. You can check the CCTV footage.

It’s a doll that I threw, not a child,” he said in the video while trying to explain himself to the shocked and grieving residents.

After his arrest, police took the injured man to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical treatment due to the injuries he sustained from the beating by angry residents.

Amanda was also rushed to the same hospital’s emergency unit and placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Despite doctors’ efforts to save her life, the young girl was sadly declared dead just minutes later.

The devastating news has caused an outpouring of grief across the estate. Many residents have been left emotionally shattered, especially those who had watched Amanda grow up and had seen her potential.

She was known to be a vibrant and talented little girl who had already started pursuing a career in acting. Her videos, which were shared online, showed a promising young star full of life and passion.

Now, the residents are demanding justice for Amanda. They are calling on law enforcement and the judiciary to ensure that the man responsible for her death is punished to the full extent of the law.

They believe that nothing can bring back Amanda, but justice must be served to bring peace to her grieving family and the community.

Kasarani Sub-County Police Commander, Emmanuel Rono, has promised that justice will be delivered.

He assured both the family and the public that the police are taking the matter seriously and are working closely with investigators to ensure the suspect is brought to justice. “We want to assure the members of the public and the family that justice will be done,” Rono stated firmly.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has strongly condemned the tragic act. In a statement, the organization described the killing as inhumane and heartbreaking.

FIDA-Kenya has already assigned an advocate to follow up on the case and ensure that all legal procedures are followed to secure justice for Amanda and her family.

The advocate will also work closely with the police and other authorities to monitor the progress of the case.

This painful incident has not only robbed a family of their beloved daughter but has also left a deep scar in the hearts of many Kenyans.

Amanda Mutheu’s story is a tragic reminder of how quickly life can be taken away by those meant to protect it.

As the country mourns, many are hoping that justice will be swift and that such a tragedy will never happen again.
