Maraga Officially Declares Himself ‘Gen Z Presidential Candidate’

Maraga Declares 2027 Presidential Bid as ‘Gen Z Candidate’

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has officially announced his intention to run for president in the 2027 General Elections, positioning himself as the Gen Z presidential candidate.

Speaking during an interview with NTV on Wednesday night, Maraga said his decision to enter politics was driven by the desire to mentor young people and guide the next generation of leaders.

“Yes, I am the Gen Z presidential candidate. I have children, and many people in this country also have children. We have a duty to mentor the youth so that they are ready to take over the leadership of our country,” Maraga said.

As he declared his presidential ambitions, Maraga identified key areas he plans to address if elected—among them being corruption in government budgets and increasing police brutality.

He explained that after long discussions with friends and deep personal reflection, he felt it was time to seriously consider the direction the country was heading.

“After having conversations with close friends and thinking deeply about where we are headed as a nation, I realised we can’t just sit back and watch a few individuals push the country toward collapse,” he stated. “Because of that, I have decided to run for the presidency in 2027.”

Maraga emphasized that fighting corruption would be a major focus of his leadership. He acknowledged that taking on graft would likely bring him into conflict with powerful individuals who benefit from the current system, but insisted he was ready for the challenge.

Unlike many politicians who use large amounts of money to influence voters, Maraga made it clear that he would not be handing out cash to win support.

Instead, he plans to ask ordinary Kenyans to support his campaign financially by helping with logistics and other needs on the campaign trail.

He also explained why he believes Kenyans should vote for him. If elected, Maraga said he would assemble a team of skilled and experienced professionals from different sectors to help him run the government effectively.

He assured voters that he would create the right environment for experts to carry out their work and push the country forward.

Maraga also promised to restore the rule of law and ensure that every citizen, including himself, respects and follows the Constitution. He said Kenya was at a critical point and needed a leader who was brave enough to take bold steps to bring change.

With his declaration, Maraga joins a growing list of political figures planning to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 elections. Ruto has already made it clear that he intends to defend his seat.

Other notable politicians eyeing the presidency include former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, and Martha Karua, who leads the People’s Liberation Party (PLP).

Maraga’s entry into the race brings a new dynamic to the competition, especially with his appeal to younger voters and his strong stand on integrity, professionalism, and constitutionalism.
