Ruto, Uhuru Aides Promoted in Latest Military Reshuffle
President William Ruto has promoted his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga, to the rank of Brigadier in the latest round of changes within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
This promotion marks a major milestone in Lengusuranga’s military career and highlights the growing trust and responsibility placed on him in his role as a close aide to the Head of State.
Brigadier Lengusuranga currently holds the prominent and highly sensitive position of ADC to the President, a role that involves being constantly by Ruto’s side during public functions, official events, and ceremonial occasions.
His presence is not just symbolic but also reflects the strong military backing to the Presidency.
Lengusuranga is a seasoned officer from the Kenya Army and has served in the elite Special Forces unit of the KDF.
This unit is renowned for its advanced tactical training, precision, and ability to operate in high-risk environments, both locally and abroad. His background in the Special Forces speaks to his exceptional skills and dedication.
He was appointed as President Ruto’s ADC in October 2022, succeeding Brigadier Timothy Lekolool. Lekolool had served in the same capacity under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During the handover, there was a symbolic moment where Lekolool saluted President Ruto and stepped behind him, signaling a formal transfer of allegiance and duties. He briefly continued as Ruto’s ADC before handing over to Lengusuranga.
Following his service at State House, Brigadier Lekolool was transferred to the Department of Defence. He has now been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed as Senior Directing Staff (SDS) at the National Defence College.
This is a prestigious role at Kenya’s top institution for training senior military and government officials on matters of national security, defence strategy, and global geopolitics.
Major General Lekolool holds a unique place in Kenya’s military history as the first ADC to come from the Kenya Navy.
He served as Uhuru Kenyatta’s ADC from 2018 until the end of his term in 2022. His leadership, discipline, and commitment to duty earned him respect across the military and the public.
Beyond his military work, Lekolool is also known for his community involvement and philanthropy. He is the son of the late Francis Lekolool, a former Provincial Commissioner, and has been praised for balancing service to the nation with giving back to the community.
In his new role as SDS, Lekolool will mentor and guide high-ranking officers from both Kenya and partner nations, helping shape the future of defence leadership in the region. He replaces Victor Mburu, who left the post to further his studies in national security.
As part of the broader changes in the KDF command structure, President Ruto also appointed Major General David Kipkemboi Ketter as the new Commander of the Kenya Army.
Ketter replaces Lieutenant General David Tarus, continuing the trend of refreshing the military leadership with experienced and well-trained officers.
These changes reflect an ongoing effort by the government to strengthen the military’s leadership and enhance national security through strategic appointments.
