Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, has sent a strong warning to opposition leaders who have been criticizing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
While speaking during the burial ceremony of Albert Ojwang in Homa Bay County, Wanga urged the leaders to stop focusing on attacking Raila and instead find better and more meaningful political agendas.
“Leave Raila alone. We can’t have an opposition full of scavengers and clueless individuals who don’t know what they are talking about. All they do is talk about Raila,” Wanga firmly stated.
The Governor criticized recent remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other opposition figures, saying their statements against Raila Odinga were empty, divisive, and lacked any real substance.
She accused them of trying to divide Kenyans along ethnic lines and attempting to hijack the movement started by the Gen Z youth.
“You are wrong if you think you can walk around this country, promoting tribal divisions and trying to ride on the sacrifices and courage that Gen Zs have shown. That course is sacred and not for political games,” she added.
Wanga also defended the Broad-Based Government, which is seen as a partnership between Raila Odinga and President William Ruto. She assured residents that they will continue to support the direction taken by both leaders, despite criticism from some quarters, particularly within the Azimio coalition.
“We are on this journey, and we are going to walk it with confidence and without any shame,” she emphasized, referring to the collaboration between Raila and Ruto.
The Governor accused some opposition leaders of trying to misuse the ongoing Gen Z-led protests for their own selfish political interests.
According to her, these leaders are not genuinely supporting the youth but instead are looking for a way to gain power by exploiting the public unrest.
“The Gen Z movement is not for your personal gain. They will not allow anyone to hijack it for selfish motives,” Wanga said.
She further reassured ODM supporters that the party remains united and committed to its mission. She made it clear that the party will not be intimidated or pressured into abandoning Raila Odinga.
This warning comes as tensions rise within the opposition camp, especially after Raila’s involvement with the broad-based government. Some leaders allied with Azimio have accused him of turning his back on the coalition’s principles.
Recently, during a political rally in Western Kenya, several opposition leaders—including Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i, Kalonzo Musyoka, and George Natembeya—harshly criticized President Ruto’s administration and also took direct aim at Raila Odinga.
Despite the growing political rifts and sharp criticism, Wanga’s strong message shows that ODM and its leadership remain firmly behind Raila and are prepared to confront any attacks aimed at weakening his influence or legacy.
