Moses Kuria Resigns From Government After 10 Months as Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor
Moses Kuria has officially stepped down from his position in President William Ruto’s government, just ten months after being appointed as the Senior Economic Advisor to the Head of State.
Kuria, who has held several key roles since 2022—including Cabinet Secretary for Trade and later for Public Service—made the announcement on Tuesday evening through an official statement. He confirmed that he had submitted his resignation and that President Ruto had accepted it.
“Earlier this evening, I met with my boss and my friend, President William Ruto. The President kindly accepted my request to step down from my current role in government. I am deeply grateful to him for the trust and responsibility he placed in me,” Kuria stated.
He reflected on his time in office, highlighting the various leadership roles he had served in. “I thank President Ruto for giving me the opportunity to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months, as well as overseeing Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for 9 months. For the past 10 months, I have been honoured to serve as his Senior Economic Advisor.”
In recent days, Kuria had caused public speculation by posting a series of statements that appeared to question the political direction of the country, especially in light of the ongoing Gen Z-led protests, which have shaken the government and raised concerns nationwide.
Although he did not provide a detailed reason for his resignation, Kuria hinted that the decision was personal. “As I now transition to focus on my personal interests, I take pride in the work we did together—particularly in advancing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which I co-created with the President and which formed the backbone of our 2022 election campaign.”
He concluded his message with a patriotic note: “Long live Kenya.”
Kuria’s departure comes at a sensitive time for the government, which is facing intense public scrutiny from young citizens who are demanding accountability and reforms. His resignation adds another layer to the evolving political landscape as the administration seeks to address mounting pressure from protesters and civil society.
