Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Juja MP George Koimburi Over Alleged Fake Abduction Case
The Milimani Law Courts have issued an arrest warrant for Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi after he failed to appear in court to answer charges related to faking his own abduction.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 16, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed that Koimburi and Kanyenya-ini Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Grace Nduta Wairimu skipped their court appearance. The two were scheduled to attend proceedings for a case involving claims that they orchestrated a fake kidnapping to evade justice.
The ODPP revealed that only four out of the six individuals named in the case showed up in court. These four pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them and were each granted bail set at Ksh300,000.
According to the ODPP, the absence of Koimburi and Nduta from court violated Section 117(c) of the Penal Code, which addresses the crime of conspiracy to obstruct the course of justice. “A Nairobi court today issued a warrant of arrest against Juja MP George Koimburi after he failed to appear for arraignment on charges related to stage-managing his own abduction,” read the statement.
Koimburi was charged in absentia alongside MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu and five others. They are accused of planning and executing a scheme to obstruct justice by faking an abduction incident. The ODPP stated that these actions directly breached Kenyan law and undermined the integrity of the justice system.
The background of the case traces back to May 25, 2025, when the six individuals were accused of orchestrating the fake abduction of the MP. The incident allegedly occurred just before he was supposed to appear at the Kiambu Law Courts to answer to four separate land fraud charges. According to investigators, the fake kidnapping was intended to delay or avoid the court proceedings.
Koimburi is also facing separate charges of providing false information. In a press conference following the alleged incident, he claimed that he had been abducted and tortured — statements that investigators now say were lies.
His personal aide has also been charged for allegedly giving false information to a police officer at the Mugutha Police Station regarding the supposed kidnapping.
“The court heard that the MP made a false report about being abducted to an officer at Mugutha Police Station, leading police to act on fabricated claims,” the ODPP noted.
The controversial abduction saga drew strong reactions from top security officials, including the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja. They accused Koimburi of faking his own abduction to serve political interests and stir public emotion.
During a press briefing held on May 28, security agencies disclosed that after interrogating three more suspects linked to the alleged abduction, they uncovered serious inconsistencies and contradictions in their stories. This evidence, they said, clearly pointed to a staged incident.
“It is deeply troubling and unimaginable that a sitting Member of Parliament would go to such lengths to fake his own abduction.
This act created unnecessary fear and anxiety among the public. Thankfully, thorough investigations allowed us to uncover the truth and inform the nation that the MP was never abducted,” said Amin Mohammed, Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
This case continues to draw attention across the country as it involves serious allegations of deception, abuse of public trust, and manipulation of legal processes by elected officials. The court proceedings are expected to resume once the missing accused appear before the court.
