Former senior presidential advisor Moses Kuria has responded strongly to allegations made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who accused him of supporting former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga.
Kuria, in a fiery and sarcastic post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday afternoon, dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
He suggested that Gachagua was in no position to lecture anyone about integrity, alleging that the former DP has his own controversial political past. Kuria claimed he personally witnessed Gachagua’s questionable conduct while they were both serving in President William Ruto’s administration.
“Rigathi Gachagua has accused me, while touring the United States, of funding and supporting Maina Njenga. I plead guilty. After all, I learned from the best,” Kuria wrote in a heavily sarcastic tone.
Kuria’s remarks came shortly after Gachagua addressed Mt Kenya residents, warning them to be wary of Kuria’s political maneuvers. Gachagua claimed Kuria was being used to divide the Mt Kenya voting bloc, accusing him of echoing President Ruto’s political strategies to split the region’s support base.
“Whenever you see Moses Kuria or any party he supports praising certain positions or political directions, know that it’s not random—it’s a carefully planned move aligned with the President’s agenda,” Gachagua cautioned.
“There’s a deliberate strategy to divide the Mt Kenya region into two political factions, and sadly, some of our very own are playing into that scheme,” he added.
These tensions come on the heels of Kuria’s recent resignation from his government post as Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor, which fueled speculation about deeper political rifts.
In a heartfelt resignation message shared on July 8, Kuria expressed appreciation to President Ruto for the opportunity to serve in various capacities. He emphasized that his departure was amicable and acknowledged the President’s role in his political journey.
“This evening, I had a meeting with my boss and good friend, President William Ruto. I’m grateful that he has accepted my resignation,” Kuria said in his statement.
He went on to reflect on his journey in the government: “I thank the President for the trust he placed in me—first as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry for 11 months, then as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for 9 months, and finally, as Senior Economic Advisor for the past 10 months.”
As political tensions continue to simmer in the Mt Kenya region, Kuria’s comeback to Gachagua’s accusations signals growing internal friction within Ruto’s political circle—highlighting deeper divisions that could shape the 2027 political landscape.
