Moses Kuria has broken his silence following a viral photo showing him with former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga—an image that has stirred political debate, especially after Rigathi Gachagua claimed Kuria was financially supporting Njenga.
On Sunday evening, Kuria took to social media to clarify the context behind the controversial image. The former senior economic advisor to President William Ruto said the photo was taken after an unexpected encounter back in 2023—not recently, as alleged by Gachagua.
Kuria explained that on June 11, 2023, he was leaving a radio interview at Kameme FM when he bumped into Maina Njenga at the station’s reception. According to Kuria, Njenga politely asked for a photo, and he agreed.
“That’s the same photo one mad man, Rigathi Gachagua, is now claiming was taken last week. Relax, my friend,” Kuria wrote, hitting back sharply.
He went on to criticize Gachagua for changing his political narrative depending on his interests, calling him a hypocrite. “Two years ago, you were calling all our young men Mungiki. Now you call them Itungati. You’re not just a liar—you’re a shameless one,” Kuria added.
The image in question shows Kuria and Njenga smiling warmly, holding hands and raising them in unity—a pose that sparked speculation that the two were now political allies.
While in the U.S. on July 19, Gachagua warned the Mt Kenya community to be cautious of certain leaders he claimed were being used to divide the region’s political strength.
Without directly naming names at first, he soon mentioned Kuria, suggesting that the former Cabinet Secretary was part of a scheme supported by President Ruto to split Mt Kenya’s vote.
“When someone like Moses Kuria appears to champion certain ideas, just know it’s not by accident. It’s part of the President’s political game plan to divide Mt Kenya into two competing blocs,” Gachagua told the diaspora crowd.
Kuria didn’t hold back in his response. With sharp sarcasm, he claimed that if he had indeed mastered the art of political scheming, he must have learned it from Gachagua himself.
In an even more explosive revelation, Kuria alleged that he had been present during a secret meeting where Gachagua allegedly paid individuals to raid former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Northlands farm.
“I was in the room when Rigathi gave money to those same people to steal Uhuru’s goats,” Kuria wrote, adding fuel to an already tense political feud.
The heated exchange has highlighted growing divisions within the Mt Kenya leadership, with both sides accusing each other of betrayal, manipulation, and playing politics with the region’s unity as the 2027 General Election draws closer.
