The High Commission of India in Nairobi has announced a public auction of a wide variety of used and outdated items, inviting bids from interested individuals and businesses.
In a public notice released on Tuesday, July 29, the commission called on potential buyers to participate in the auction, which will feature numerous items from its inventory that are no longer in use.
The goods set for auction are currently located at two different properties: the Indian Residential Complex on High Ridge, Wangapala Road in Parklands, and at India House along Limuru Road in Muthaiga, Nairobi.
“The High Commission of India in Nairobi invites bids using the attached format (Annexure II) for the disposal of obsolete and surplus items,” read part of the official auction announcement. “The full list of items available can be found in Annexures III and IV.”
At the Parklands premises, the auction items include a mix of household and office items such as wooden chairs, used tyres, large metal gates, roll-up banner machines, whiteboards, cupboards, wooden podiums, stage lights, doors, various boxes, tabletop boards, and banner stands.
There’s more on the list: banner cloths, used hand dryers, water dispensers, different styles of sofa sets, old curtains, wooden cupboards, metal shelves, side tables, and both wooden and plastic storage units.
Meanwhile, the Limuru Road office is auctioning off other assorted items such as wooden library cabinets, large tables, iron bollards, metal grilles, glass gates and panels, old flagpoles, and a massive wooden crate.
Interested bidders are encouraged to physically inspect the items at the respective locations between July 29 and August 7, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. daily. The High Commission emphasized that prospective buyers must assess the condition of the items themselves, as no claims will be accepted later regarding item condition.
The final deadline for submitting bids is August 7, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. All bids must be dropped off at the High Commission’s office located at UN Crescent in Gigiri, Nairobi. Late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances. The bids will be officially opened on August 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.
Each bidder is required to pay a non-refundable Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of Ksh5,000, which must accompany the bid submission. The payment should be made through a bank draft or cheque addressed to the Head of Chancery, High Commission of India, Nairobi.
Items will be sold to the highest bidders only. Once a bidder is selected, they must clear the full remaining balance within three working days. If payment is not made within this period, the bidder will lose their EMD and the offer will be withdrawn.
All bids must be submitted using the official format (Annexure II), enclosed in a sealed envelope. The bid amount must be written both in figures and words, and only in Kenyan Shillings. In case there is a mismatch between the number and word format, the amount written in words will be considered final.
The sealed bid envelope should be clearly addressed to:
The Head of Chancery, High Commission of India, Nairobi.
Bids arriving late or in incorrect formats will be rejected without review.
