Mike Sonko Receives Two Prestigious Global Awards for Humanitarian Work
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has proudly announced that he has received two major international awards in recognition of his ongoing humanitarian efforts.
In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, August 4, Sonko revealed that he had been honoured with the Civility Voice Diplomats Global Humanitarian Award. This award celebrates individuals who are committed to promoting peace, civility, and humanitarian values around the world.
Sonko also received a second honour — the I Change Nations (ICN) Builders in Action Legacy Award — presented by the Builders in Action organization. This award recognises individuals who have made significant efforts to improve the lives of others through personal sacrifices and dedication.
The two awards were presented separately to Sonko at his office in Upper Hill, Nairobi. The Civility Voice Diplomats award was presented by CVD President Dominic Obadiah, while the ICN award was delivered by the ICN special envoy.
“These awards were handed to me during two separate ceremonies held at my Upper Hill office. The first award was the Civility Voice Diplomats Global Humanitarian Award, which recognised my strong commitment to promoting peace, civility, and humanitarian values internationally,” Sonko said.
He added, “The second award, the Builders in Action Legacy Award by I Change Nations, was given to me in recognition of the personal sacrifices I have made — both in time and resources — to uplift the lives of those in need.”
Sonko welcomed the recognition with gratitude and pledged to continue supporting the less fortunate in society. He also extended his thanks to Dr. Reuben West, the ICN Special Envoy, and Dr. Clyde Rivers, the President of ICN, for acknowledging his work.
“I am deeply thankful to Dr. Reuben West and Dr. Clyde Rivers for this great honour. I remain fully committed to continuing my humanitarian work and helping improve the lives of the underprivileged in our communities,” he said.
This is not the first time Sonko has received international awards for his humanitarian contributions. In 2019, the European Digital University (EDU) awarded him an Honorary Degree of Excellence for his public service and charitable efforts.
That same year in France, he received the Milan Pact Award for his role in developing the Urban Early Warning and Early Action Tool, a program aimed at identifying and preventing food insecurity in urban areas.
In addition, Sonko and his Sonko Rescue Team were honoured by the No End to Love organisation after they rescued a four-year-old boy whose father — the child’s only guardian — had been fatally stabbed by criminals.
The award was presented by Margaret Heighton, the organisation’s president and founder, along with her husband Dave Heighton, both from the United States.
Among the many other awards Sonko has received are the East African Humanitarian Personality of the Year and the prestigious World Peace Messenger Award from the World Peace and Diplomacy Organisation based in Los Angeles, USA.
With these latest recognitions, Sonko continues to stand out as a prominent figure in humanitarian service, not just in Kenya but across the globe.
