Kenyans to Receive Ksh4,000 from Government This Month

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has officially announced the release of Ksh4.6 billion meant for the payment of Inua Jamii beneficiaries for the months of June and July 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Joseph Motari, the Principal Secretary for Social Services and Senior Citizen Affairs, the Ministry confirmed that over one million Kenyans will each receive Ksh4,000. This amount includes a double payment—Ksh2,000 for June and another Ksh2,000 for July—after the June disbursement was delayed.

According to the government, a total of Ksh4,607,668,000 has been allocated for this purpose. The payment will go to 1,151,917 individuals enrolled in the Inua Jamii cash transfer programme, which targets older persons, orphans, vulnerable children, and people living with severe disabilities.

“The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, has disbursed Ksh4.6 billion to support 1.15 million older citizens and persons with severe disabilities under the Inua Jamii program,” read part of the official communication. “This covers both the June and July 2025 payments. Each enrolled beneficiary will now receive Ksh4,000 in total—Ksh2,000 per month. Disbursement has already started.”

The Ministry explained that the payment for June had been delayed due to a system upgrade and a data clean-up exercise, which was necessary to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the program. The Ministry also issued an apology to the beneficiaries for any inconvenience the delay may have caused.

“The delay in June’s payment was a result of a comprehensive data clean-up process. We sincerely apologise for any difficulties this may have caused, particularly to our elderly citizens and vulnerable individuals who depend on this support,” the Ministry noted.

In addition, the government encouraged all beneficiaries and their caregivers to collect the funds as soon as possible. To access the money, beneficiaries can either log into the eCitizen platform or dial *222# on their mobile phones. Once the transaction is successful, the funds can be withdrawn from a mobile money agent near them.

The Ministry also advised recipients to report any issues or difficulties to the nearest social protection office so that the problems can be addressed quickly and efficiently.

In an effort to improve the distribution of the funds, the Ministry recently shifted from using bank accounts to mobile money services, making it easier for recipients—especially those in remote areas—to access their money without unnecessary delays or challenges.

Moreover, all beneficiaries were urged to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) so they can benefit from affordable and quality healthcare services. This move aligns with the government’s broader plan to improve the welfare and health coverage of vulnerable groups in the country.

The Inua Jamii program continues to play a vital role in supporting elderly Kenyans, orphans, and persons with severe disabilities, providing them with a reliable safety net to help meet their basic needs.
