Eric Omondi Exposes Woman Who Lied About Domestic Violence to Con Kenyans
Comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi has come out strongly against a woman who faked a domestic violence story in order to receive financial help from Kenyans.
The woman, identified as Joyce Nyabuti from Kitengela, had earlier gone viral after a video circulated online showing her being chased out of a house by a man alleged to be her husband.
Many Kenyans, moved by her plight, quickly called upon Eric to intervene through his charitable initiative, Sisi Kwa Sisi.
The Viral Video and Public Sympathy
The incident began earlier in the week when the video of Joyce being thrown out of a house sparked widespread outrage and sympathy.
In the footage, a man could be seen forcing her out while she appeared distressed. Joyce claimed the conflict was linked to her children’s mental health struggles, saying her husband had refused to support her and eventually kicked her out of their home.
Her story touched many people, and she further alleged that a close friend had temporarily given her accommodation after being abandoned.
Eric, who has been leading campaigns to help struggling Kenyans, reached out to her and even shared her contact details so well-wishers could assist. Through the support of Kenyans, over KSh 1 million was raised within just a few hours.
The comedian assured his followers that the money would help Joyce start a small business and secure her own home.
The Shocking Discovery
However, things took a shocking twist when Eric decided to dig deeper into Joyce’s story. According to him, something about the situation did not feel right.
While on his way back to Nairobi, he received several videos from people showing the same child used in Joyce’s plea appearing on YouTube channels before. This raised suspicions that the case may not be genuine.
Determined to get to the bottom of the matter, Eric drove back to Kitengela to verify the claims. Upon investigation, it was discovered that Joyce had conspired with another woman, whom she introduced as her sister, to stage the incident.
The man seen in the viral video was not her husband, but rather someone they barely knew who had agreed to act the part.
To make matters worse, they used the child of Joyce’s friend, who has mental health challenges, knowing that this would draw more sympathy and increase donations from the public.
Eric’s Response and Police Involvement
Speaking during the confrontation, Eric said he had trusted his instincts when the story started to appear suspicious. “When I was driving back to Nairobi, people sent me videos of this kid on YouTube. That is when I knew something was wrong, and I had to come back for due diligence,” he explained.
The comedian made sure that the matter was reported to the authorities. He personally handed over the mobile phone that was used to collect the donations, which already had more than KSh 1 million, to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers present.
Joyce and her alleged accomplice were detained at Kitengela Police Station as investigations into the scam continue.
Eric’s Message to Kenyans
Eric took to his social media pages to update Kenyans on the incident, stressing that Sisi Kwa Sisi operates under strict principles of accountability and transparency. He assured supporters that every case undergoes thorough verification both before and after donations are made.
“Hey guys, one of the principles of Sisi Kwa Sisi is that we do serious due diligence before, during, and after a case. These individuals tried to scam Kenyans, but God is greater.
It is very sad that they would exploit innocent children just to steal from Kenyans. Tumewashika (we have caught them), and they are now at Kitengela Police Station.
The phone used to receive the money is in police custody with over KSh 1 million. We are now seeking guidance from the Sisi Kwa Sisi team on the way forward,” Eric wrote.
A Lesson for the Public
The incident has left many Kenyans disappointed, especially those who contributed money in good faith, believing they were helping a struggling mother in distress.
It has also raised concerns about fraudsters taking advantage of public goodwill, particularly at a time when Kenyans are eager to support those in need through online platforms.
Eric Omondi, who has built a reputation as a comedian turned humanitarian, vowed to continue helping genuine cases but emphasized the importance of vigilance.
He noted that the misuse of children and fabricated stories not only undermines trust but also denies real victims the support they desperately need.
