Activist Arrested for Disrupting Court Proceedings
There was drama at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, August 25, after activist Julius Kamau disrupted ongoing sessions to strongly criticise both the government and the country’s judicial system.
Witnesses say Kamau briefly brought court business to a standstill after sprawling himself across the corridors and openly condemning the judiciary.
His loud remarks caught the attention of lawyers, police officers, and court officials, drawing an unexpected crowd inside the building.
The commotion forced Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina to intervene, and he immediately ordered that the activist be detained. However, even after the directive was given, Kamau continued speaking out without fear.
He accused the courts of being biased, insisting that ordinary Kenyans should never put their trust in a system that he claimed only protects the wealthy and the powerful.
“You can never get justice in these courts!” Kamau shouted before court orderlies rushed to restrain him. “In a system that only favours the rich, you cannot trust it.”
His defiant words echoed through the corridors as two police officers dragged him away. Still, the activist refused to remain silent, declaring that he was not out of order but simply standing up for the rights of ordinary Kenyans who feel betrayed by the justice system.
As he was escorted out, Kamau shouted even louder, “This is too painful. Call me a madman, but we will not continue living like this.
I am very sane; the people in power are the ones who are sick!” His emotional outburst left many bystanders murmuring, with some sympathising with his frustrations while others viewed his actions as disruptive.
Kamau is no stranger to such stunts. He has gained a reputation as a bold and relentless activist who uses dramatic actions to demand justice and highlight issues affecting ordinary citizens. He has often appeared around the courts, particularly when cases involving activists and protestors are being heard.
In May 2025, Kamau went viral online after interrupting court proceedings to demand justice for Rex Maasai, a young man who was killed during the June 2024 protests.
His bold move at the time sparked heated discussions on social media, with many Kenyans debating the state of justice and accountability in the country.
Similarly, in September 2024, he caused another dramatic scene by interrupting the court hearing involving activist Boniface Mwangi and four others who had been charged in connection with the Gen Z demonstrations.
On both occasions, Kamau’s actions were widely covered in the media, further cementing his place as one of the loudest voices among Kenya’s grassroots activists.
Following his latest outburst, legal experts say Kamau could likely face charges of creating a disturbance in a public place, an offence outlined under Section 95 of the Penal Code. If found guilty, such an offence carries a penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine, or both.
While his arrest was met with mixed reactions, Kamau’s message once again sparked debate on the fairness of Kenya’s justice system, with some Kenyans agreeing with his sentiments while others criticised his approach as disrespectful to the courts.
