Kenya’s tourism industry has once again taken the spotlight on the global stage after two of its most iconic destinations — Solio Lodge and Giraffe Manor — were named among the world’s top travel experiences in the Forbes Travel Guide 2025 Edge List.
The prestigious list, released on Thursday, September 11, featured only 20 attractions across 15 countries, with Kenya emerging as one of just two African nations to make the cut.
The Forbes Edge List celebrates exceptional hotels, resorts, and cruises that are reshaping the future of travel. Honourees are evaluated based on four key principles, including uniqueness, innovation, and unforgettable guest experiences.
The final selections are determined through a mix of in-person visits by Forbes Travel Guide’s anonymous inspectors, editorial research, and detailed inspection data.
Solio Lodge, nestled between the slopes of Aberdare National Park and the foothills of Mount Kenya, was recognised in the “Animal Encounters” category.
Forbes praised it for its rare access to endangered rhino species within the 45,000-acre Solio Game Reserve, home to more than 200 black and white rhinos. Most of these magnificent creatures are endangered, making Solio one of the most important conservation sites in Africa.
“Forbes noted that few wildlife encounters are as powerful as meeting East Africa’s endangered rhinoceros,” the guide highlighted.
Guests at Solio Lodge are treated to diverse experiences, from early morning, afternoon, or evening game drives to adventurous wildlife viewing on horseback, mountain bikes, or even from a private helicopter.
Meals served in the bush add to the unique charm, making the lodge a standout for eco-tourism and luxury travel enthusiasts.
Giraffe Manor, located in the leafy suburbs of Nairobi, also received recognition for its one-of-a-kind animal interactions, particularly with the rare Rothschild’s giraffes.
Once a 1930s hunting lodge, the boutique hotel has transformed into an internationally famous destination where guests can enjoy intimate and unforgettable encounters with these gentle giants.
At Giraffe Manor, visitors don’t need to venture into the wild for a safari; the safari comes to them. Guests wake up to giraffes poking their heads through bedroom windows in search of treats or join them for breakfast, sharing pancakes and coffee while feeding the animals specially prepared pellets.
Forbes described it as “one of the continent’s most magical animal encounters,” blending luxury comfort with conservation and adventure.
Reacting to the recognition, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano celebrated the achievement, stating that it not only affirms Kenya’s strength in global tourism but also showcases the country’s commitment to offering world-class travel experiences.
She noted that the honour will further boost Kenya’s visibility as a must-visit destination for international travellers.
The recognition of Solio Lodge and Giraffe Manor highlights Kenya’s unique ability to combine luxury, conservation, and adventure, reinforcing its place as one of the world’s top safari and wildlife destinations.
