Murkomen Reveals New Leads in Lawyer Mbobu Murder Probe as Suspects Interrogated

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has disclosed fresh details in the ongoing investigations into the shocking murder of prominent lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was gunned down along Magadi Road in Nairobi.

Speaking to the press in Migori County on Thursday afternoon, Murkomen revealed that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had already identified several persons of interest connected to the Tuesday evening killing.

He confirmed that some of them were already being interrogated, while more individuals were being profiled for possible involvement.

According to the CS, the breakthrough came after multiple witnesses stepped forward to share crucial information, helping detectives piece together the sequence of events.

“We have been in constant touch with the DCI since the incident happened, and I am encouraged to report that there is progress.

A number of persons of interest have already been identified and are under interrogation. We thank the eyewitnesses who were at the scene and many others who continue to give valuable information,” Murkomen stated.

While reassuring Kenyans of a thorough and speedy investigation, Murkomen appealed to the public to continue cooperating with police officers by sharing any details that could assist in the probe.

He stressed that anyone with credible information should report to the nearest police station to aid in bringing the killers to justice.

Beyond the investigation, Murkomen also took time to mourn the late lawyer, describing him as a brilliant legal mind, an eloquent teacher, and a dedicated professional.

The CS spoke fondly of Mbobu, recalling that he had been one of his lecturers during law school.

“This is a very tragic incident, one that reminds us of the loss of Ong’ondo Were years back. Personally, I am deeply saddened because Mbobu was not just my teacher, he was also a friend and mentor,” Murkomen said.

His update came just a day after the DCI announced the official launch of investigations into Mbobu’s murder. Preliminary findings revealed that the lawyer was ambushed by armed assailants while driving home after attending meetings in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

Detectives recovered three spent cartridges at the crime scene and confirmed that Mbobu had been shot five times in the head, dying instantly.

A post-mortem examination of his body was scheduled for Thursday, September 11, at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi, to be led by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor.

The findings are expected to provide more clarity on the circumstances surrounding the high-profile killing.
