The government has officially thrown its weight behind a unique initiative by Kenyan TikTokers who plan to build an ultra-modern hospital that will offer free medical services to the public.
Dennis Itumbi, the Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination, praised the idea, saying it fits perfectly into the government’s universal healthcare agenda.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 1, during a TikTok creators workshop at Glee Hotel in Kiambu County, Itumbi said the move mirrors President William Ruto’s vision of improving healthcare access across the country.
“That is a brilliant idea. Kenyans have built hospitals before through contributions, which is why faith-based hospitals exist.
President Ruto is also overseeing the construction of 70 hospitals by the KDF,” he said.
“So if TikTokers can organize and build another hospital, that’s even better. The government fully welcomes such initiatives.”
The Viral Story That Inspired the Movement
The drive to build the hospital was inspired by the touching story of a 17-year-old TikToker known as Kaluma Boy.
The young creator gained massive attention after consistently posting videos of himself caring for his father, who had suffered a stroke. His resilience and compassion moved thousands of Kenyans.
Last Sunday, hundreds of well-wishers traveled to his home in Othaya, Nyeri County, to support the teenager and his ailing father in person.
This act of unity sparked a powerful idea among TikTok users:
Why not build a hospital specifically for people like Kaluma Boy’s father—those struggling silently without support?
A Citizen-Led Solution to a Struggling Health System
Many Kenyans believe that the proposed TikTok-built hospital could be a much-needed relief from the challenges in public health facilities, which often face:
- Shortage of doctors and nurses
- Insufficient medication
- Long waiting times
- Poor infrastructure
By mobilizing their online community for a physical impact project, TikTokers are proving that digital influence can turn into real change.
