The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have issued a strong warning to the public after receiving a rising number of complaints about fraudsters posing as military officials and asking for bribes in exchange for recruitment slots.
In its weekly bulletin released on Friday, October 3, KDF revealed that scammers are targeting jobseekers through hotlines and social media, pretending to be insiders who can influence the upcoming recruitment exercise.
According to the military, these con artists claim they can secure positions for applicants if they pay a certain amount of money.
“The Ministry of Defence and KDF have received numerous reports via hotlines and social media about individuals and groups attempting to obtain money under the false promise of influencing the recruitment process,” the statement read.
KDF urged the public not to be deceived by anyone claiming to have connections within the military.
“We call on Kenyans to stay alert and avoid being duped by impostors pretending to be KDF officials or recruitment agents,” the bulletin added.
Public Urged to Report Suspicious Activity
The defence forces advised Kenyans to immediately report any cases of bribery, suspicious communication, or attempted recruitment fraud to the nearest police station or military camp.
KDF also made it clear that recruitment is conducted strictly on merit, based on qualifications, physical fitness, and performance during the official selection process—no shortcuts, no intermediaries.
Legitimate Application Process Outlined
To avoid confusion, KDF emphasized that all applications for General Service Officers (GSO), Specialist Officers, and Tradesmen and Tradeswomen must be made only through the official recruitment portal.
The warning comes just three weeks after KDF announced a nationwide recruitment drive for various roles. The application period runs until October 12, 2025.
Shortlisted candidates will be announced in local newspapers between October 21 and October 24.
