ODM’s Philip Etale Shares Raila Odinga’s Assurance and Warm Message to Kenyans
Amid a wave of rumours circulating online about Raila Odinga’s health, the former Prime Minister has come out to clear the air and assure Kenyans that he is in good condition.
Raila personally spoke to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communications Director Philip Etale on Tuesday afternoon, confirming that he was doing well and dismissing all claims of hospitalisation as baseless online gossip.
According to Etale, Raila was cheerful, lively, and in great spirits during their conversation. The ODM leader reportedly sent warm greetings to all Kenyans and asked them not to be swayed by fake reports spreading on social media.
“I have just spoken with Raila Odinga, barely five minutes ago. He is happy and full of life,” Etale stated. He further quoted Raila saying, “I’ve seen a lot of propaganda being spread online. Let’s keep praying for those who peddle such falsehoods.”
Etale also confirmed that the former Prime Minister is currently out of the country but will be returning home soon.
“He has asked me to pass his greetings to all Kenyans and assure everyone that he will be back within a few days,” Etale added, emphasizing that Raila remains strong and in good health.
Raila’s prolonged absence from the public eye in recent weeks had raised curiosity and concern among Kenyans, sparking speculation about his health and whereabouts.
Many of his supporters took to social media demanding clarification, prompting the ODM leadership to respond and set the record straight.
Etale’s update comes just a day after senior ODM officials publicly rubbished reports suggesting that Raila was unwell. The party dismissed the claims as pure misinformation being pushed by political opponents.
In a detailed statement issued on Sunday, October 5, the ODM party explained that Raila Odinga had travelled abroad purely for personal engagements and not for medical treatment as alleged by a section of the media.
“Honourable Raila travelled out of the country on Friday evening. This is one of his many trips abroad this year and certainly not the last,” the party clarified.
It further stated, “Contrary to reports by bloggers and a few media outlets, he did not travel to Europe. Raila is in good health and has not been hospitalised, as some of his opponents would want Kenyans to believe.”
The rumours about Raila’s condition first started spreading in early October after the ODM party postponed its 20th Anniversary celebrations that had been planned for October 3 in Mombasa.
The postponement fueled speculation online, but with the latest communication from Etale and the ODM leadership, Kenyans have now been reassured that the Azimio leader is safe, healthy, and will soon be back in the country.
