Obinna Takes Action After Accusations of Causing Shalkido’s Death

Media personality Oga Obinna has announced that he will stop offering personal one-on-one help to people following several days of accusations on social media linking him to the tragic death of former Gengetone and Mugithi artist Shalkido.

In a statement released by his management on Thursday, Obinna explained that he made this decision after being constantly targeted by online bloggers who, according to him, were using the sad incident to gain attention and engagement on social media.

“This decision comes after continuous defamation by bloggers and social media users who have turned acts of kindness into tools for views, likes, and fame,” Obinna stated.

He further expressed his disappointment, saying that what started as a genuine desire to help those in need had turned into a source of false stories, online bullying, and negativity.

“My intention was to uplift others, but instead, I’ve been met with lies, trolling, and deep ingratitude. People now choose to destroy rather than appreciate acts of kindness,” he added.

Despite his decision to end direct personal assistance, Obinna made it clear that this does not mark the end of his charitable efforts. He emphasized that his brand will continue supporting structured charity programs through established platforms.

He mentioned that three key initiatives will continue operating:

  1. Obinna TV Studios’ CSR programmes, which will proceed as planned.
  2. Obinna TV Foundation, which he described as the official and only channel for all his charity work.
  3. Business and professional interactions, which will not be affected by the new decision.

However, going forward, the YouTuber said he will no longer offer direct personal help, respond to unsolicited requests, or engage in any private charitable interventions outside his foundation.

Addressing the serious accusations against him, Obinna revealed that he is taking legal action against those spreading false information and defamatory statements online.

“Individuals, bloggers, and content creators posting unverified or defamatory claims will face legal consequences,” he warned. “We have tolerated these baseless accusations for too long. Legal documentation is in progress, and we will ensure accountability under the law.”

The controversy began after Shalkido passed away on Monday, a day after a motorbike accident that occurred shortly after he left an event in Thika where he had been with Obinna.

Reports indicated that Obinna was the first to share news of the accident.

Following the tragedy, some Kenyans criticized Obinna online, questioning why he allowed Shalkido to use his motorbike to go home instead of offering him a ride in his car.

Just a few months earlier, Obinna had hosted Shalkido on his popular YouTube show, where the former Sailors Gang member opened up about his financial struggles.

His story touched many Kenyans, including comedian Eric Omondi, who through the Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative, helped raise money to buy Shalkido a motorbike to start a boda boda business.

Sadly, the same motorbike meant to help him rebuild his life was the one involved in the accident that led to his untimely death only a month later.
