Raila Odinga Reportedly Dies in India While Receiving Treatment

Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has reportedly passed away while undergoing treatment in India.

According to the circulating reports, Raila is said to have collapsed during a morning walk on Wednesday, October 15, after allegedly suffering a cardiac arrest.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors are reported to have pronounced him dead at approximately 9:52 a.m. Indian Standard Time, as stated by an unnamed hospital spokesperson.

Sources claim that his daughter and close relatives were by his side at the time of the incident. Raila had traveled to Koothattukulam in Kerala’s Ernakulam district to receive Ayurvedic medical treatment, a traditional healing practice commonly used in the region.

The 80-year-old leader had arrived in India six days earlier, attracting wide public interest after various contradicting reports regarding his health emerged online.

Earlier, on Thursday, October 9, while speaking at an ODM party event, Raila’s elder brother Oburu Odinga had confirmed that Raila was unwell and receiving medical attention abroad. However, he insisted that the condition was not life-threatening and assured supporters that Raila was already recovering.

“I want to take this chance to clear the air,” Oburu had stated during the event. “People have been going around spreading rumours that our party leader is seriously ill, that he is at the point of death or completely incapacitated. That is not true. He only had a minor illness that required him to travel for treatment.”

Despite his remarks, speculation about Raila’s health continued to spread, eventually leading to the current reports alleging his death.
