Mourners Storm Raila Odinga’s Grave After VIPs Leave
Raila Odinga’s burial took an unexpected and chaotic turn shortly after President William Ruto and other top leaders left the ceremony.
A huge crowd of mourners who had reportedly been barred from attending the private part of the burial forced their way into the former Prime Minister’s gravesite at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.
The emotional crowd, numbering in the hundreds, rushed past security and made their way directly to the fresh grave. In the commotion, some people pulled apart the wreaths and floral arrangements that had been carefully placed earlier.
The cement around the gravesite was still wet as mourners pushed against each other while chanting, cheering, and dancing in celebration of Raila’s life.
Videos and photos seen by Newshub.co.ke captured the dramatic scenes as the crowd poured into the homestead. Some individuals even climbed onto the roof of the mausoleum that houses the remains of Raila’s father, Kenya’s first Vice President, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
The mourners, determined to pay their last respects in their own way, turned the burial site into a scene of traditional songs, ululations, and cultural dance.
Many insisted that Raila was a man of the people and should not have been buried in a strictly controlled ceremony.
The charged atmosphere reflected both deep love and frustration from supporters who felt excluded from the final farewell.
