President Ruto Urges Youth Empowerment as Tanzania Faces Protests
President William Ruto has called on African leaders to empower the youth to prevent idleness and political manipulation that often leads to unrest, citing the ongoing protests in Tanzania as a warning to the region.
Speaking in Busia County during his development tour, Ruto announced a Ksh 900 million international stadium project and launched new hostels at Bumbe National Polytechnic.
He said such projects are aimed at creating opportunities for young people to grow their talents and businesses instead of being used by politicians to cause chaos.
“Our youth should be creators of jobs, not tools for destruction. Leaders must invest in them so they have purpose and direction,” Ruto said, urging unity and hard work among citizens.
His remarks come as Tanzania grapples with post-election protests that have seen clashes between demonstrators and security forces, with reports of arrests and internet disruptions.
Rights groups have condemned the government’s response and called for peace and dialogue.
Ruto’s comments were seen as a subtle message to regional leaders to focus on development and youth empowerment as the key to maintaining peace and stability across East Africa.
