Mbadi, Duale, and Oparanya Lead CSs in Announcing 25 New Government Appointments

The government has unveiled a fresh round of state appointments, naming 25 individuals to take up various roles across five ministries. The new appointments, announced by different Cabinet Secretaries, aim to boost efficiency and strengthen service delivery in key sectors.

Leading the list is Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Wycliffe Oparanya, who made 15 appointments to both the National and County Steering Committees on the revival of coffee farming through cooperatives.

In a public notice, the ministry stated: “It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has constituted a National Steering Committee and County Steering Committee on the revival of Coffee through Co-operatives for a period of two years, effective from October 31, 2025.”

Former Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga will chair the National Steering Committee, while Daniel Chemno and James Wachihi Muturi have been named as the first and second vice chairpersons, respectively.

Other members include Timothy Mirugi, Laura Wanjiru, Charles Rintaugu, Kennedy Kilwake, Okioma Mwancha, Caroline Cherotich, David Obonyo, Henry Kinyua, Dr. Elijah Gichuru, Felix Mutwiri, Felix Miano, and Richard Kiprono Magut.

The committee will serve for a period of three years and will oversee policies aimed at reviving coffee production and improving farmers’ welfare.

At the county level, each County Steering Committee will be co-chaired by the County Commissioner and the County Executive Committee (CEC) member in charge of Agriculture or Cooperatives.

The County KPCU Representative will act as the Secretary. Other members will include the County Chief Officers for Agriculture and Cooperatives, a representative from the Coffee Cooperative Society or Union, and the County Director of Cooperatives.

Their main role will be to coordinate activities on the ground and ensure that national policies are effectively implemented at the county level.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also made six appointments to the Nursing Council of Kenya, with each member set to serve a three-year term.

The new appointees include Collins Otieno Ajwang, Salome Nasimiyu Situma, Dr. Teckla Ngotie, Gilbert Sigei, Prof. Juliana Misore, and Sarah Marrey Burje.

Their task will be to support reforms and policy direction within the nursing profession and improve healthcare service standards across the country.

Meanwhile, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi announced two appointments to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Petroleum Refineries Limited (KPRL).

Those appointed are Lilian Bokeeye Mahiri-Zaja and Henry Gathara Karinga. Their inclusion is expected to strengthen the board’s leadership and contribute to strategic energy sector development, especially in petroleum refining and supply.

In the National Treasury, Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi appointed Felix Useru Nyauchi as a member of the Insurance Tribunal, effective October 31.

His appointment replaces that of Sammy Cheepkwony, who currently chairs the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). The Insurance Tribunal handles disputes related to insurance matters, ensuring fairness and accountability within the industry.

Lastly, Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui appointed Gor Anthony Ochieng to the Kenya Consumer Protection Advisory Committee.

This committee plays a crucial role in safeguarding consumer rights, promoting fair trade practices, and advising the government on policies that protect buyers from exploitation.

These appointments come as part of the government’s broader effort to enhance institutional performance and drive key economic and social programs across the country.

Each ministry has been tasked with ensuring that the newly appointed members deliver results that directly benefit citizens, strengthen governance, and promote growth in their respective sectors.
