Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has finally spoken out following former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s stern warning to party members against attacking Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
During an interview on TV47 on Tuesday evening, Kioni clarified that Uhuru’s remarks during the recent Jubilee Party meeting were not meant to silence anyone but rather to emphasize the importance of proper and coordinated communication within the party.
According to Kioni, the former President’s message was simply a reminder that party communication should be structured and channeled through one designated spokesperson to maintain order and clarity.
“What the former President meant was that we must improve how we communicate. We now understand that information from the party should come from a single spokesperson,” Kioni explained.
The Secretary General further revealed that the Jubilee Party is planning to hold a retreat beginning Thursday this week.
The goal of the retreat, he said, is to review and strengthen the party’s communication strategy, ensuring that future messages focus on real issues affecting Kenyans rather than political confrontations.
“On Thursday, we will have a retreat where we will agree on how best to communicate as a party. Going forward, our communication team will concentrate on addressing genuine issues that touch on the lives of ordinary Kenyans, not on political quarrels,” Kioni reiterated.
He also acknowledged that since the 2022 General Election, the party has experienced numerous challenges, especially internal divisions that disrupted its operations and public messaging.
Kioni pointed out that there had been attempts by some individuals to illegally take control of the party, a move that created confusion and weakened Jubilee’s communication system.
“After the 2022 elections, we have faced several hurdles in rebuilding our party. There were people who tried to take over the Jubilee Party through unlawful means, and we all know who they are. These internal wrangles greatly affected our communication,” he stated.
Kioni’s remarks come just a few days after Uhuru Kenyatta openly cautioned him and other party officials against engaging in political insults, especially towards Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
While speaking in Murang’a on Friday, November 7, during a Jubilee grassroots meeting, the former President expressed disappointment over what he described as growing divisive rhetoric from certain members of his party.
“And you, Kioni, I want to caution you about your comments on social media. Stop abusing Gachagua and others. I do not want to see that again. I will not tolerate disrespect or insults from anyone within my party,” Uhuru warned.
Uhuru further urged all Jubilee members to embrace discipline and mutual respect, reminding them that the party’s goal should be unity and service to the people rather than engaging in abusive politics.
He encouraged members to express their opinions respectfully, saying that political debates should aim to strengthen democracy, not to divide the country.
Kioni’s latest response seems to align with Uhuru’s guidance, showing the party’s renewed effort to rebuild trust, foster unity, and focus on meaningful issues that impact the lives of Kenyans.
