NYS Issues Directives to Former Members Ahead of Police Recruitment

Former members of the National Youth Service (NYS) who wish to join the Kenya Police are being urged to visit the NYS Headquarters in Ruaraka as part of the recruitment process.

In a statement released on Sunday, November 16, NYS Commandant General Samson Kiptum explained that the recruitment centre at Ruaraka will be exclusively for ex-NYS members who possess a valid NYS Discharge Certificate.

This certificate will not only verify their eligibility but will also serve as a gate pass, granting candidates access to the recruitment grounds located at the Nairobi Holding Unit (NHU).

Kiptum further emphasized that, in addition to holding a discharge certificate, former NYS members must also meet all the requirements outlined in the official Kenya Police recruitment advertisements.

He said, “Following the release of the addendum to the Kenya Police Recruitment Advertisement 2025, which designated Ruaraka (NYS Headquarters) as Recruitment Centre S/No. 423, the Employment Liaison Office wishes to inform all ex-NYS candidates that the recruitment exercise will be conducted at NHU Grounds, off Thika Road, opposite Utalii Hotel.”

Candidates were also advised to download and properly fill out the Police Constable Application Form, which is available through the National Police Service.

This form is a mandatory step in the application process and must be completed before attending the recruitment exercise.

“The Employment Liaison Office strongly advises all esteemed ex-NYS members to report first to their respective Sub-County offices, as highlighted in the official Kenya Police recruitment advertisement.

This step is particularly important given the short notice of this announcement,” Kiptum added.

The Kenya Police recruitment is scheduled for Monday, November 17, and will take place simultaneously at 427 centres across the country.

In a statement issued earlier on Friday, November 14, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that the exercise will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and that at least 10,000 new constables are expected to be recruited.

Kanja said, “On 31st October 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) issued an advertisement in all leading daily newspapers, announcing the recruitment of 10,000 qualified youths to be trained as police constables.”

He added, “The recruitment will go ahead as scheduled on Monday, 17th November 2025, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all 427 recruitment centres across the nation. It is a one-day exercise.”

This announcement follows a High Court decision that lifted the previous suspension of the recruitment exercise, clearing the way for the long-awaited recruitment process to finally take place.
