Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga’s husband, George Wanga, has officially stepped into a major national leadership role after being appointed as the new Managing Director of the Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB).
His appointment, made by President William Ruto, places him in charge of running one of Kenya’s most important state agencies in the education sector. He will serve a three-year term.
George Wanga, who previously served at the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), now takes on the responsibility of guiding KLB’s overall strategy and overseeing its daily operations.
His role will involve steering the agency toward sustainable growth while ensuring that its work supports national education goals.
KLB, established in 1980, has for many years been the country’s backbone in publishing, printing, and distributing educational materials, especially curriculum-based textbooks used in both primary and secondary schools. The bureau plays a central role in shaping learning resources for millions of Kenyan learners.
Wanga officially assumed office on Wednesday, November 26, during a meeting with Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok at the PS’s office in Nairobi.
During the visit, he pledged that KLB would continue strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Education to support improvements in basic education across the country.
He emphasized the agency’s commitment to producing high-quality, affordable, and curriculum-aligned learning materials, particularly at a time when Kenya is actively rolling out education reforms under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
PS Bitok welcomed Wanga to his new role, expressing confidence that his leadership would help boost the delivery of competency-based learning resources.
“Our priority is to ensure that every child in Kenya accesses relevant, affordable, and top-quality educational materials,” Bitok said.
He further appreciated the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry and KLB in supporting curriculum implementation and improving learning outcomes nationwide.
Before joining KLB, Wanga served as the non-executive chairperson of EPRA’s Board of Directors, a position he was appointed to in January this year.
However, his appointment at EPRA was revoked six months later through a gazette notice issued in June 2025—a move that sparked considerable public debate among Kenyans at the time.
His new role at KLB now marks another significant step in his public service career, placing him at the center of Kenya’s efforts to improve the quality of education materials for learners across the country.
