Kisii Family Shocked After Exhuming Body When ‘Dead’ Daughter Returns Home Alive

A family in Kisii County has been thrown into deep emotional turmoil after being forced to exhume a body they had buried seven months ago.

The shocking development came after their daughter, Sarah, who they believed had died in a tragic road accident, unexpectedly returned home alive.

The family from Gotinyango village in Nyaribari Masaba had lived with the pain of losing Sarah, who had been missing for two months following a serious accident that claimed several lives.

During the search, they received information from a friend about an unclaimed female body at the Keroka morgue that resembled their missing daughter.

Because the accident had caused severe injuries and disfigurement, the grieving family identified the body as Sarah.

Heartbroken and overwhelmed, they conducted full funeral rites and buried the woman on their land, convinced they had laid their daughter to rest. The family spent months mourning, adjusting to the painful reality of what they thought was an irreplaceable loss.

However, everything changed two months later. Sarah regained consciousness, recovered enough strength, and reached out to her family using a friend’s phone. The call left her family in shock, disbelief, and joy.

Their world turned upside down as they struggled to understand how their daughter could be alive when they had already buried someone in her place.

Realizing the painful truth—that they had buried a stranger—the family sought legal intervention to correct the situation. After presenting their case, a court granted them permission to exhume the wrongly identified body.

Today, the exhumation was conducted under the supervision of a government pathologist and officials from Keroka.

The casket and the remains were recovered safely, bringing an end to months of emotional confusion for the family.

However, this also marked the beginning of a new chapter: finding out who the unknown woman was and helping her real family receive the closure they deserve.

The incident has shocked the local community of Gotinyango, Nyaribari Masaba, and raised serious questions about body identification procedures, especially in cases involving severe accidents.

For now, the family is simply grateful that their daughter is alive, even as they process the trauma of the mix-up and prepare for the next steps.
