Ruto Attends Wedding of NIS Boss Noordin Haji’s Son in Garissa
President William Ruto on Saturday, November 29, took a break from his tight schedule to attend the colourful wedding ceremony of Mohammed Noordin Mohamed Y. Haji, the son of National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director-General Noordin Haji.
The joyous event was held in Masalani town, located in Ijara Constituency, Garissa County, and photos obtained by Newshub.co.ke showed the President in a cheerful mood as he interacted warmly with guests throughout the ceremony.
The wedding, which was an all-white Nikkah celebration, carried deep cultural and religious significance. A Nikkah, highly respected in Islamic tradition, marks the official and spiritual union between a man and a woman under Sharia Law.

It is both a binding civil agreement and a religious covenant, conducted with the mutual consent of the bride and groom and witnessed by family and community members.
Following long-standing Islamic customs, the bride—identified as Jamila Mohamed—was not displayed publicly during the ceremony, as such occasions are treated with dignity and privacy.
Guests at the ceremony were dressed in white, a colour widely associated with purity, serenity, and spiritual commitment in Islamic weddings. President Ruto, despite being the most prominent guest in attendance, respectfully followed the dress code.

He was joined by several leaders, among them newly installed ODM party leader Oburu Odinga, who also graced the ceremony.
Another notable figure present was Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe), who travelled into the country specifically to accompany the Haji family on this important day. His attendance highlighted the strong cross-border ties and personal respect shared with the family.
President Ruto’s visit to the wedding came shortly after he wrapped up a development tour in Garissa County. During the tour, he officially launched the 376-unit Masalani Affordable Housing Project in Ijara Constituency.

The President noted that the housing project seeks to offer decent and affordable homes to local families. He also highlighted that the development is expected to boost the local economy by creating new job opportunities and supporting small businesses.
In addition, Ruto inaugurated the newly built Yusuf Haji Girls’ Secondary School, where he handed over a brand-new school bus to support students’ transport needs. He also laid the foundation stone for Phase II of the school’s expansion, signalling continued government investment in education infrastructure in the region.
Overall, the day combined both celebration and development, reflecting a blend of cultural honour, community connection, and national leadership.
