A dramatic and unexpected scene played out in Kisii town after a sitting Member of Parliament allegedly stormed into a local hotel and confronted a civilian he believed was romantically involved with a woman linked to him.
The incident, which happened on the morning of Thursday, November 27, shocked guests who were calmly having breakfast before the commotion unfolded.
According to early reports, the confrontation was sparked by what sources described as a heated love triangle that had been brewing for some time. CCTV footage from the hotel shows the legislator walking in hurriedly and heading straight toward the man, who was quietly seated at a table enjoying his meal.
In the video, the MP can be seen talking aggressively while pointing at the civilian, clearly looking angry and unsettled. Within moments, the argument suddenly turned violent, leading to a prolonged physical clash that drew the attention of hotel staff and diners.
Several people tried to pull the two apart, but their efforts were not successful as the fight continued for several minutes.
The footage also shows the MP attempting to stomp on the civilian’s torso as chaos broke out in the room. At one point, another person stepped in, trying to calm the situation, but the MP is seen slapping him before returning his attention to the initial target.
The civilian later claimed that the MP confronted him while shouting, demanding respect, and accusing him of being involved with the legislator’s girlfriend. He said the attack was unprovoked and left him with injuries that required medical attention.
During a press briefing on November 30, the victim narrated the entire ordeal to journalists, expressing fear and confusion over the sudden aggression.
He confirmed that he had already filed an assault report at Kisii Central Police Station on the same day of the incident, November 27. However, he raised concerns that, despite all procedures being followed, no action had been taken against the MP several days later.
His lawyer, Bernard Atancha, echoed the frustration, stating that the legal team had completed all requirements, including obtaining a P3 medical report, yet the police had not arrested or summoned the lawmaker. He questioned why such a serious assault inside a busy hotel was being handled slowly.
The victim’s lawyers also expressed fears for their client’s safety, suggesting that the MP may still pose a danger and could attempt to harm him again if no intervention is made.
This incident comes only months after two Members of Parliament were involved in a physical confrontation within the parliamentary precincts, raising fresh concerns about rising cases of violence among public officials and the lack of swift disciplinary action.
