State House Official Faces Tense Roadside Confrontation with Driver
Mike Gitonga, widely recognized as the official voice and emcee at presidential events, found himself in an unexpected and tense encounter over the past weekend.
The Secretary of State for Functions was involved in a roadside incident with a driver who appeared to be intoxicated, leading to a confrontation that quickly turned into a curious mix of humor, reasoning, and unexpected wisdom.
The incident took place as Gitonga was heading home on his BMW GS motorbike. According to reports, a man driving a Ford Ranger Raptor double-cab pickup was dangerously on the wrong side of the road, almost forcing Gitonga off into the ditch.
Concerned for his safety, Gitonga attempted to reason with the driver. “Why are you trying to push me into the ditch? Why not flash a signal to indicate I should lower my lights? Is throwing me into the ditch really the solution?” he asked, trying to keep the situation under control.
What followed was a prolonged and unusual exchange between the two motorists. Gitonga, calm and composed, faced a driver who appeared intoxicated and defensive, making the standoff both tense and oddly humorous.
As the conversation continued, Gitonga pressed the man to acknowledge his behavior, but the driver vehemently denied being under the influence. Instead, he accused Gitonga of bullying him simply because he rode a BMW.
“That’s how you BMW guys behave. I am not drunk. Just because you own a BMW, you think you are Jesus,” the driver retorted, his tone a mix of anger and incredulity.
In a moment that surprised many onlookers, Gitonga took a more reflective approach, even citing John 3:16 from the Bible in an attempt to encourage the man to think about his actions. Responding calmly, Gitonga remarked, “I am not Jesus.
Jesus did not have a BMW, so I do not think I am him.” The intoxicated driver continued to challenge him, saying, “Just because you have money, do not show off. In heaven, there will be no BMWs. I may not have a Bible, but you are pushing people around.”
Despite the intensity of the encounter, the argument eventually eased. Both men exchanged names and pleasantries before parting ways safely, turning what could have been a dangerous incident into a peculiar story marked by humor and unexpected life lessons.
Mike Gitonga is no stranger to the public eye. He previously served as a news anchor at KTN News and later as the Communication Director for the First Lady, Rachel Ruto. In January 2023, President William Ruto appointed him as the Secretary of State for Functions.
Gitonga holds a Degree in Electrical Engineering from Nottingham University in the United Kingdom, a journey that began after he left France due to difficulties with the language barrier. His career trajectory reflects a mix of media expertise, government service, and personal resilience.
