Murkomen Breaks Silence After Kariobangi Chaos as Gachagua Claims Assassination Attempt
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has spoken out strongly following the dramatic chaos at a church service in Kariobangi North, where Rigathi Gachagua claimed that police officers attempted to kill him.
The incident, which unfolded during a thanksgiving event attended by Gachagua, left several people injured and sparked national outrage.
Murkomen dismissed claims that the government was targeting political opponents and instead blamed the violence on politicians who use hired goons to cause trouble.
He warned that the days of political leaders unleashing violent youths at public events, rallies and even places of worship were over.
According to him, such individuals would be pursued and punished under the law, regardless of their political standing.
The Interior CS also said the government had already launched investigations to identify the groups behind the Kariobangi chaos.
He stated that action would be taken not only against the goons involved but also against any security officers who may have collaborated with them.
Murkomen insisted that no officer would be spared if found guilty of aiding illegal groups or taking part in politically motivated violence.
The Kariobangi incident created shock across the country after gunshots and tear gas were reported near the church compound.
Gachagua accused the police of attempting to assassinate him, saying officers fired at his supporters and stormed the venue to disperse the gathering.
He described the incident as a direct attack orchestrated by powerful individuals in government who want to silence him.
Church members and local residents confirmed that chaos broke out shortly after Gachagua arrived at the event. Several people were injured as gunfire and tear gas caused panic among worshippers.
The former Deputy President condemned the attack as a violation of sacred spaces and demanded immediate accountability from security agencies.
Murkomen, however, maintained that the government had no interest in harming any political figure and urged Kenyans to remain calm as investigations continue.
He said the ministry was determined to stop the growing trend of political violence ahead of future elections.
According to him, no leader will be allowed to destabilize communities using violence disguised as political mobilisation.
The incident has widened the political rift within the country, with rival camps trading accusations and warning of rising tensions.
Many Kenyans are now watching closely to see whether the investigation will lead to arrests and whether both the attackers and any rogue officers involved will face justice.
