Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has moved to reward loyalty within his new party by appointing several candidates who lost in the November 27, 2025 by-elections to the DCP National Executive Council.
The announcement was made on December 4, 2025, through his official social media pages, where Gachagua praised the candidates for their courage, commitment, and dedication to the party during the highly competitive by-elections.
Gachagua commended them for what he described as brave service to the party, noting that their efforts reflected the true spirit and values of the Democratic Change Party (DCP).
“You did an incredible job in the November 27, 2025 by-elections and strongly upheld the ideals of the party,” he wrote, appreciating their resilience despite not winning their respective races.
Among those appointed is Stanley Kenga, the DCP candidate for the Magarini parliamentary seat.
Kenga lost to ODM’s Harrison Garama Kombe after securing 8,907 votes, while Kombe clinched victory with 17,909 votes.
Despite the loss, Gachagua highlighted Kenga’s performance as impressive and noted that the party considers him a key asset moving forward.
The former deputy president also appointed Edgar Busiega, who was initially set to vie for the Malava seat under the DCP ticket.
Busiega had to step down as part of a united opposition strategy, where DCP supported DAP-K’s Seth Panyako.
However, Panyako was defeated by UDA candidate David Ndakwa. Gachagua acknowledged Busiega’s sacrifice, saying that stepping aside for coalition unity was an act of maturity, loyalty, and commitment to the broader political mission.
Another appointee is Simon Sonare, the DCP aspirant for the Purko Ward MCA seat.
Sonare lost to United Democratic Party candidate Mpusia Alex, but Gachagua said his effort on the ground had strengthened the party’s visibility and influence at the grassroots level.
His inclusion in the council is seen as recognition of his hard work and dedication to the party’s growth.
Gachagua’s decision to appoint the by-election losers is part of a wider plan to solidify the party’s foundation and reward loyalists as DCP continues to position itself as a rising political force.
The party, launched on May 15, 2025, has already secured three elected MCA positions within its first year—an achievement Gachagua says shows the party’s growing strength and potential.
Looking ahead, the DCP aims to build a strong national presence and challenge President William Ruto’s UDA party in the 2027 General Elections.
By bringing these candidates into the National Executive Council, Gachagua hopes to energize the party’s leadership structure, expand its influence, and maintain unity as they prepare for a bigger political battle.
