The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has confirmed that it will hold grassroots elections in the remaining 20 counties early next year, marking another major step in reorganizing and strengthening the party at the county level.
In a statement released on Thursday, November 4, National Election Board (NEB) Chairman Anthony Mwaura announced that the exercise will take place on Saturday, January 10.
He explained that this decision was reached after a joint meeting between the UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) and the NEB, a session that was chaired by Deputy Party Leader Kithure Kindiki.
Mwaura noted that the leadership agreed it was necessary to complete the grassroots election cycle in all counties where polls had not yet been conducted.
He emphasized that the party is committed to ensuring a smooth, transparent, and inclusive electoral process for all its members.
According to the announcement, grassroots elections will be held in a wide list of counties, including Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kericho, Nakuru, Nandi, and Trans Nzoia.
Other counties set to participate in the exercise are Uasin Gishu, Samburu, Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, and Murang’a. The elections will also take place in Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Kakamega, and Vihiga.
The NEB encouraged all aspirants seeking various party positions in these regions to register through the official UDA online portal. Registration will run from December 4 to December 23, giving potential candidates enough time to submit their applications.
Mwaura also mentioned that an official notice outlining the full details of the grassroots elections will be issued by the NEB on December 4, 2025.
After registration closes, aspirants will have a comprehensive campaign period that stretches until January 10, when voters across the listed counties will choose their preferred candidates.
UDA’s announcement comes only a week after the party celebrated a strong performance in the by-elections held on November 27, 2025.
During those highly competitive mini-polls, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) conducted elections in 22 areas to fill vacant parliamentary, senatorial, and county assembly seats.
The ruling party emerged victorious in 12 of those seats, a result that its leaders have described as a major political statement.
Speaking on Friday, November 28, UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar said the outcome shows that President William Ruto still enjoys significant support among Kenyans.
He noted that the results reflect the confidence voters continue to have in the party’s agenda and leadership.
Overall, the upcoming grassroots polls are expected to energize UDA supporters and give the party a chance to refresh its leadership structures ahead of future political activities.
