ODM Member Dies After Short Illness
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced the passing of Georgina Margaret Oketch, a respected member of the party’s Disability League.
In a statement released on Saturday, December 6, the party revealed that Oketch died after a short illness. ODM did not specify the exact date on which she passed away.
The party further noted that Oketch once served as a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Siaya County, where she was known for her dedication and commitment to public service.
“We deeply mourn the death of Hon. Georgina Margaret Oketch, a committed member of the ODM Disability League and a former nominated MCA in the Siaya County Assembly,” the party said.
“Her contribution to the party and the community was immense, and her absence will be felt by many. May she rest in peace.”
Her death was announced only a few hours after another heartbreaking loss in the political arena—the passing of Kenya Kwanza Alliance’s nominated MP, Denar Joseph Hamisi.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed that Hamisi died early Saturday morning, December 6, at around 7am.
“It is with profound sorrow that I notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, December 6, 2025, at about 7am,” Wetang’ula said in his statement.
Hamisi was nominated to the National Assembly by the Amani National Congress (ANC) after the 2022 General Election.
In Parliament, he served diligently on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture, as well as the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.
His colleagues often commended him for his discipline, humility, and unwavering commitment to national service.
Wetang’ula extended condolences to Hamisi’s family, friends, and all who interacted with him, praising his character and devotion to public duty.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who previously served as ANC party leader, also remembered Hamisi with warm and emotional words, describing him as a principled, loyal, and dependable leader who always put the interests of the people first.
Both deaths have left the political community in deep mourning, marking a sad day for the country as two leaders known for their service, dedication, and positive influence are remembered and honored.
