The family of well-known gospel DJ Karumba Ngatia, popularly known as DJ Krowbar, has announced the death of his wife, Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, following a long and difficult illness that she faced with remarkable strength and faith.

In an official family statement, it was confirmed that Joyce passed away in the early hours of Monday morning at around 3:00 a.m. on January 26, 2026.

The family described her final journey as one marked by resilience, deep faith, and courage, even as her health challenges became more demanding.

According to the statement, Joyce had undergone a kidney transplant in mid-2025, a major medical procedure that initially brought hope and signs of recovery. For some time, her condition appeared stable, giving the family optimism about her healing process.

However, later in the year, she developed medical complications related to the transplant, which significantly affected her health.

Towards the end of 2025, Joyce was hospitalized again after developing a serious infection. Doctors were able to manage the infection successfully, and she was discharged to continue her recovery at home. Sadly, in the weeks that followed, her condition worsened once more.

This decline in her health led to her re-admission to hospital, where she received further medical care until her passing.

Throughout her illness, Joyce remained strong in spirit. Family members and close friends remember her as a woman who never lost hope and who leaned firmly on her faith, even during her most challenging moments.

Her courage and calmness left a lasting impression on everyone who walked alongside her during her health journey.

Affectionately known as “Joy”, she was described as a devoted wife, a loving and caring mother, and a woman of strong Christian values.

Beyond her immediate family, Joyce touched many lives through her kindness, warmth, and unwavering belief in God, earning admiration and respect from the wider community.

She is survived by her husband, DJ Karumba, and their three children, Toria, Riri, and Imani, who now face the difficult task of moving forward without a wife and mother who meant so much to them.

In their message, the family acknowledged the deep pain of losing Joyce but said they remain grounded in their faith. They expressed comfort in the belief that she is now free from pain and resting in eternal peace.

“While we are deeply saddened by this profound loss, we find comfort knowing she is now at perfect peace,” the family stated.

They also humbly requested continued prayers, love, and understanding from the public, while asking that their privacy be respected as they mourn and come to terms with the loss.

The family further expressed sincere appreciation for the overwhelming support they have received from friends, well-wishers, members of the public, and the media during this difficult period.

They noted that funeral and burial arrangements are currently underway, and assured supporters that more information will be shared once plans are finalized.

As a reflection of their faith and hope, the family quoted Psalms 31:5, encouraging Kenyans and supporters to continue praying for the Karumba family as they prepare to lay Joyce to rest.

The death of Joyce Wanjiru Karumba is a painful loss not only to her family but also to the wider Kenyan society.

Her passing adds to the growing list of prominent and deeply felt losses that have continued to affect the country following the many notable deaths that marked 2025, leaving many Kenyans reflecting on life, faith, and resilience.
