Safaricom Introduces Limitations to Reverse Call Service: Only Two Free Calls Per Day

Safaricom PLC has announced a major update to its popular reverse call service, a feature that has been widely embraced by subscribers since its introduction in 2019.

The telecommunications company has confirmed that while the service will continue, users will now be limited to two free reverse calls per day.

The decision to implement this change has sparked a wave of reactions from users on X (formerly Twitter).

In response, Safaricom clarified that any additional reverse calls beyond the first two will incur standard call charges.

“The reverse call service is still available. Please note that the initiator of the reverse call will only be billed on the third reverse call request of the day when the sponsor accepts the request,” Safaricom stated.

Under the new policy, subscribers will enjoy two free reverse calls each day, with the third and subsequent calls being charged at normal rates, provided the receiver accepts the call.

The company also assured users that after the third request, the initiator would not incur any extra costs for the remainder of the day when using the reverse call service.

The reverse call service allows Safaricom customers to make calls without airtime, with the receiver bearing the cost.

All Safaricom subscribers can utilize this service by dialing # followed by the recipient’s number.

Upon receiving the call, the recipient is prompted to accept or decline the charges.

If they accept, the call proceeds at the normal rate; if they decline or do not respond, the call is disconnected without any charges.

This update marks a significant shift in how subscribers can use the reverse call service, and it remains to be seen how customers will adapt to the new limits.
