On Saturday, March 22, Morara Kebaso, the leader of the INJECT Party, took to his official X account to strongly criticize former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for what he described as ‘tribal-driven politics.’
In his statement, Morara responded to a recent video of Gachagua in Machakos, where the former DP emphasized the political strength of Mt. Kenya and suggested that the region could remain in power for the next century.
In the video, which Morara shared on his social media, Gachagua also mentioned that leaders from Mt. Kenya would dominate the upcoming elections in Nairobi County.
Morara, however, was not impressed by Gachagua’s statements and questioned how the younger generation could view such remarks as a sign of progress.
He expressed his concerns, saying, “How can I convince Gen Zs that this speech, from a leader of such influence, is the kind of change they were fighting for? I find it hard to associate the Gen Z movement with this.”
Morara, who has recently been seen with both Gachagua and opposition leaders, continued to criticize the divisive nature of tribalism in Kenyan politics.
He noted that the long-standing tribal focus in Kenyan leadership has contributed significantly to corruption and hindered accountability.
This ongoing issue of tribalism has previously been a major point of contention for Gachagua, even leading to his temporary removal from his position in October of the previous year.
In his response, Morara hinted at a growing divide between him and Gachagua. He made it clear that he would not support the continuation of tribal politics, especially if it meant undermining the unifying efforts of the Gen Z movement. “The leaders of the opposition must come together.
I fully agree with that. But what will unite us? Do we share common values? Are we just replacing one problem with another?” Morara questioned.
Morara’s political rise has been marked by his open criticisms of President William Ruto’s government, particularly through his social media campaigns, where he has exposed unfulfilled promises and projects.
He has gained significant attention for being a vocal advocate for the younger generation, especially through his leadership of the INJECT Party, which he launched in October last year.
The INJECT Party has ambitious plans for the 2027 general elections, with Morara promising to field candidates for all elective positions.
He boldly stated, “INJECT Party of Kenya will sweep Parliament, Senate, and all elective seats like a flash flood. The people of Kenya, you are welcome to visit your office in Kahawa Sukari, Kiu River Road, 6th South Avenue. Together, let’s build the party.”
Morara’s statements reflect his growing influence as a leader seeking to challenge the status quo and advocate for a new direction in Kenyan politics—one that moves beyond tribal divisions and focuses on unity and accountability.
