Parliament has given the green light to 11 new government nominees after successful vetting by different committees. The approvals cover new foreign envoys as well as leadership positions in the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
The approvals were announced in the National Assembly after reports from the relevant committees were tabled and debated. Nine individuals were confirmed for foreign diplomatic roles, while two others were cleared for top positions in the ORPP.
Approval of Foreign Envoys
The Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations had recommended the appointment of nine individuals as High Commissioners, Ambassadors, and Consuls-General. The committee’s report, tabled on 23rd September 2025, detailed the vetting process and qualifications of each nominee.
Quoting the official notice, the House stated:
“After considering the findings of the committee on the approval hearings for nine nominees for the positions of High Commissioner, Ambassador, and Consuls-General, and pursuant to Article 132(2)(e) of the Constitution, section 20(2) of the Foreign Service Act, and the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, the House approves the appointment of the following persons.”
Among those approved is former Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Chepngetich Bore, who will now serve as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Namibia, stationed in Windhoek.
Other notable appointments include:
- Anthony Mwaniki Muchiri, former Director of the Public Service Commission, as Ambassador to Turkey.
- Lucy Kiruthu, appointed as Ambassador to Thailand.
- Henry Wambuma, approved for the Burundi mission.
- Abdirashid Salat Abdille, to serve in Indonesia.
- Joseph Musyoka Masila, assigned to Saudi Arabia.
- Edwin Afande, who will represent Kenya in Austria.
In addition, Jayne Jepkorir Toroitich was approved as the Consul-General in the United Arab Emirates, while Judy Kiaria Nkumiri will take up a similar role in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Approval of Registrar of Political Parties Leadership
Apart from the envoys, the House also confirmed appointments in the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties. MPs approved John Cox Lorionokou as the new Registrar of Political Parties and Agatha Wanjiku Wahome as the Assistant Registrar.
These approvals followed a detailed vetting process conducted by the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC), chaired by George Murugara. While presenting the committee’s report, Murugara assured Parliament that the nominees were thoroughly vetted, noting that their academic qualifications, experience, and suitability for the positions had been carefully examined.
Lorionokou’s appointment marks a key transition in the ORPP. He will take over from Ann Nderitu, who was recently appointed as a commissioner at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Since July 14, Sophia Sitati has been holding the position in an acting capacity.
Next Steps
With Parliament having approved the nominees, the final stage is now the official appointment and gazettement by President William Ruto. Once gazetted, the new appointees will formally assume their roles and begin their assignments both locally and in foreign missions.
This move signals another round of fresh appointments by the government as it seeks to strengthen Kenya’s diplomatic presence abroad and ensure continuity in the regulation of political parties at home.
