Cheers as Wamuthende Sworn In as New Member of Parliament
Six newly elected Members of Parliament officially took their oaths of office on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, during a ceremony held in the National Assembly and presided over by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
The event marked the conclusion of recent by-elections, and the atmosphere in the chambers was lively, especially when some MPs stepped forward to take their oaths.
The swearing-in came after by-elections conducted on Thursday, November 27, 2025, in several constituencies where seats fell vacant following the deaths of sitting MPs or the appointment of former legislators to cabinet positions. These elections aimed to fill critical gaps and restore full representation for the affected areas.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), through a gazette notice dated December 1, 2025, confirmed and published the names of the winners. In its announcement, the commission stated that it had carried out the electoral process in line with Articles 88 and 101 of the Constitution.
IEBC also highlighted that all procedures followed the Elections Act and the Elections (General) Regulations to ensure transparency and fairness.
Among those sworn in was Hon. Harrison Garama Kombe, who won the Magarini Constituency seat with an impressive 17,909 votes. His victory reflects strong support from residents who turned up to cast their ballots despite the short campaign period.
Hon. Ahmed Maalim Hassan also took the oath to represent Banissa Constituency after collecting 10,431 votes in a closely watched race.
Kasipul Constituency’s Hon. Boyd Were Ongondo, who received 16,819 votes, was also sworn in. His entry into Parliament is expected to energize political discussions in his region, especially as the constituency prepares for major development agendas.
Malava Constituency now has Hon. David Athman Ndakwa as its representative. He secured a commanding 21,564 votes, demonstrating voter confidence in his leadership and promises for the constituency.
One of the standout moments of the day involved Mbeere North’s Hon. Leo Wa Muthende Njeru. He garnered 15,802 votes, and his arrival in the chambers triggered loud cheers and applause from the public gallery, showing just how popular he is among his constituents and supporters who had accompanied him.
Ugunja Constituency concluded the list with Hon. Moses Okoth Omondi, who was sworn in after winning the seat with 9,447 votes. His entry marks a new chapter for Ugunja residents who look forward to renewed representation.
Key constituencies such as Mbeere North, Ugunja, Malava, Magarini, and Kasipul attracted nationwide attention due to their competitive races.
Many political analysts believe these by-elections offered the first real signs of voter mood and political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The results, they say, may shape early strategies for major political players as the country begins its long journey toward the next national polls.
