Muriithi is survived by his wife and children. In the hours before the fatal crash, he had spoken to his wife on the phone. She mentioned how concerned she had seemed about his safety during their last conversation. The officer reassured her that he would be careful and return home soon. Tragically, that call became their last communication before the accident occurred.
The burial ceremony kicked off at Muriithi’s rural home in Kianyaga, Kirinyaga County on April 26th. Senior KDF officials were in attendance to bid farewell to their fallen colleague. In his career, Muriithi had shown exemplary commitment and bravery as a member of the elite KDF forces. His contribution to national security was mourned by fellow soldiers.
Muriithi’s wife has expressed deep grief over losing her husband in such an unexpected way. She recounted their final phone call and how little did they know it would be their final goodbyes. The family is still coming to terms with the sudden death and mourning the father of their children. Due to the nature of the crash, Muriithi’s remains had to be identified through DNA testing before release.

The KDF has also mourned the loss of Muriithi, acknowledging his bravery and commitment during his service. In a statement, KDF representatives expressed their deepest condolences to Muriithi’s family and vowed to continue supporting them. They honoured Muriithi and the other fallen officers as true patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their nation.
Their deaths serve as a reminder of the dangers regularly faced by Kenya’s armed forces whilst ensuring national security both overseas during peacekeeping missions and within Kenya’s borders. Muriithi will forever be remembered for devoting his life and career to protecting his fellow citizens, tragically losing his life in the line of duty during the fatal helicopter crash.
