Several people are feared dead after a landslide occured at the Kimende escarpments in Kiambu County.
Reports suggest the landslide occured following a heavy downpour experienced in the area for a better part of last week.
While confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross Society revealed a rescue team had been dispatched in the area.
“A landslide has occurred in the Kimende Escarpments of Kiambu County. Several people are believed to be trapped,” Kenya Red Cross aannounced.
“The Red Cross Action Team is en route to the scene.”
The tragedy is said to have occured on Tuesday evening at around 7pm after homes located near the eescarpments were convered in falling chunks of soil.
In the heart-wretching video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, a section of the victims could be heard shouting for help even as residents gathered to trace them.
Meanwhile, the exact number of victims involved in the tragedy is yet to be confirmed with rescue operations still underway.
Following the incident, the area wad cordoned off and declared a danger zone.
Motorists and other road users plying the Kimende-Matathia road were urged to seek alternative routes.
