Baba Jimmy also known as Isaiah Carrier, has captivated TikTok users nation wide with his remarkable fluency in Swahili, sparking a viral sensation in recent weeks.
The 24-year-old who happens to be the founder of Wajumbe Records, residing in Matunda Moisbridge within Kakamega county, has quickly risen to prominence, becoming a familiar name in households of Kenya.
Numerous Kenyans, including notable personalities, are actively participating in challenges inspired by his viral videos, amassing millions of views. With a staggering 106,000 followers on TikTok and over 1.2 million likes, his influence continues to grow exponentially.
Isaiah’s revelation about his Luhya-accented Swahili came unexpectedly, spurred by comments from his TikTok followers. Reflecting on his upbringing in the village, he remarked, “Among my neighbors, speaking Kiswahili isn’t cause for surprise; it’s simply a part of our everyday lives.”
How Did Baba Jimmy End Up Living in Kenya?
During a TV interview, Isaiah admitted that since 2012, he has called Kenya home, relocating to Kiminini, Kitale alongside his parents and 11 siblings from Indiana, USA. Although his parents and siblings have since returned to their homeland, he has remained in Kenya.
“Upon arriving in Kenya, we encountered a vastly different environment and culture. Our settlement in a small village devoid of essential utilities like clean water and electricity presented numerous challenges. Without access to transportation and contending with contaminated water sources, illnesses were frequent. Despite these hardships, we gradually acclimatized to our surroundings, forged meaningful friendships, and embarked on the journey of learning Swahili,” recounted Isaiah.
Isaiah recounted that some of their neighbors harbored disapproval towards their mission work and resorted to witchcraft to intimidate them. Recurring illnesses plagued both the family and their pets. One day, Isaiah discovered a mysterious concoction wrapped in cloth, presumably left deliberately by the witches. He then brought the wrapped mixture to his father, who offered prayers. Following the prayers, the sick family members experienced healing.
Mama Jimmy
Baba Jimmy tied the knot with Judith – Mama Jimmy at the age of 18 in 2017 and chose to stay back to further the ministry work at their Kingdom Driven Ministry church and Wajumbe Training Bible School.
His encounter with Judith, whom he fondly describes as the love of his life, traces back to 2014 when they were introduced by her brother, who was assisting his father as a translator.
Isaiah, renowned for his directness, openly expressed his affection for Judith to his parents and expressed his desire to marry her.
Recalling the beginnings of their relationship at the age of 15, he shared, “As my fondness for her grew, I frequently visited her home. Upon deciding to pursue a relationship, I informed my parents, who then conveyed my intentions to Judith’s parents.”
Isaiah’s unwavering certainty about his preferences in a partner transcended superficial qualities such as skin color, focusing solely on finding compatibility, which he found in Judith.
He mentioned that Judith appeared to be a genuine person, highlighting her humility and upbringing in a Christian household. Both of them adhered to waiting until marriage before engaging in intercourse.
Despite facing challenges together, they emerged stronger. Isaiah also expressed his desire for a partner who valued purity, emphasizing his belief in the sanctity of marriage. He stated, “We both maintained our purity until marriage, abstaining until our wedding day to consummate our union.”
Judith, affectionately referred to as Mama Jimmy, expressed surprise when her mother disclosed Isaiah’s intentions to marry her, although she had sensed his interest in her. Recounting their interactions, she remarked, “Even when my brother wasn’t around, he continued visiting our home, which made me realize he might be interested in me.
However, I didn’t take it seriously until my mother revealed Isaiah’s proposal to me, contingent on completing my education.” After thoughtful consideration, she eventually accepted his advances.
Despite facing skepticism and ridicule from others for marrying a white man, Judith remained steadfast in her decision. Disregarding the naysayers’ comments about their marriage being merely contractual and advising her to test his love by requesting money, she remained resolute, asserting, “I didn’t heed their words because, for me, love transcends material possessions.” She takes pride in their journey together and in the beautiful children they are nurturing.
Judith faced ridicule and mockery from others who perceived her decision to marry a white man as foolish. Despite being told that their marriage was merely a contractual arrangement destined to fail, and advised to gauge her husband’s love by asking for money, she remained undeterred.
Firm in her belief that love transcends material wealth, she disregarded such advice. Instead, she takes pride in the journey they have embarked on together and in the joy of raising their beautiful children.
Isaiah, a leader in the Kingdom Driven Ministry church, rejects accepting offerings and building physical structures for worship. He advocates for holding fellowships at members’ homes, focusing on prayer and Bible study.
Through his songs, like ‘Utavuna’, he criticizes churches for soliciting money from the poor and emphasizes helping the needy over sustaining lavish lifestyles. He encourages congregants to offer offerings voluntarily, detesting the commercialization of churches and the practice of refusing burial for those who don’t give offerings.
Jimmy, aged 5, and Cynthia, aged 3, are now popular TikTok personalities, joining their parents in the limelight.
On Thursday, May 30, Baba Jimmy announced that his family had finally received visas for their planned move back to the U.S., revealing they would be traveling soon.
