Saboti MP Caleb Amisi sparks debate with his criticism of Luhya parliamentarians for their embrace of President Ruto during his tour of Bungoma County.
According to Amisi, the purported meetings between the president and local leaders, ostensibly aimed at advocating for development projects, yield no substantive advantages for the electorate.
“Direct dialogue between the president and National Assembly members is impossible due to the president lacking constitutional authority to allocate development projects, a prerogative held by MPs responsible for appropriating funds,” the MP asserted.
The legislator asserts that his steadfast opposition to what he deems as mere token gestures has resulted in his omission from all gatherings between parliamentarians and the president.
“I am consistently excluded from these meetings because they fear I will publicly challenge the president, which could jeopardize their chances of receiving the financial support they seek from him,” Amisi said.
“I am systematically overlooked for invitations; every MP receives one except Caleb Amisi. As the sole elected representative from the Western Region who has yet to engage with President Ruto, the fundamental disparities between our principles render a meeting improbable,” Amisi stated.
He has additionally raised doubts about the methodology employed in determining the projects undertaken ahead of the national event, contending that certain initiatives, like the construction of the Matulo Airstrip by the military, contribute minimally to the local community but were executed primarily to showcase achievements to President Ruto.
“The airstrip will remain dormant, overrun by grass until the next Madaraka Day prompts renovation efforts, as it was solely utilized for the landing of the inaugural army plane carrying the president.”
“The staggering sum of Ksh 900 million spent on that specific occasion could have funded the construction of numerous roads throughout my constituency, which consistently ranks as the only area devoid of tarmac infrastructure,” Amisi said.
