Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu took to social media on July 5, 2024, to post a cryptic message shortly after President William Ruto publicly addressed concerns about the behaviour of some government officials, including her own.

In an Instagram post shared the same day, Nyamu posted a photo captioned, “Welcome to Kenya my country where baddies also snitch.”

The message appeared to be a response to Ruto’s remarks during his inaugural X Space engagement, where he responded to questions from Kenyans regarding the perceived misconduct and opulent lifestyles of some leaders.

During the engagement, a participant specifically called out Senator Nyamu, questioning why she continued to hold public office despite often making headlines for what was described as inappropriate conduct and an extravagant lifestyle.

“I agree that some of our officials are arrogant, some of them speak out of fun, and some display obnoxious opulence, if I may say, which not only angers the public but sometimes forces me to call these people and give them a piece of my mind,” Ruto stated.

Ruto acknowledged that Nyamu was among those he had personally spoken to about her public image. He admitted that he had engaged her on several occasions, urging her to reconsider her approach to her public life.

“Even Nyamu, I have had an occasion to sit her down and tell her that she needs to change what she is doing.”
