Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has praised the recent call for a national dialogue by President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, viewing it as a significant step towards addressing the pressing issues facing Kenya.
Kindiki’s commendation follows the announcement of a week-long dialogue set to begin on Monday, July 15.
In a statement, Kindiki emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue in achieving national consensus and finding solutions to priority issues affecting the country. He highlighted that despite numerous challenges, Kenya has historically managed to overcome obstacles through concerted efforts and dialogue.
“The assent of the IEBC Amendment Act of 2024 earlier today and the commitment by President Ruto and ODM Leader Raila Odinga to continuous dialogue offers relief to a nation in search of consensus and a broad-based political route for addressing priority matters such as job creation and income opportunities for the youth, the debt burden, public expenditure cuts, and the fight against corruption,” Kindiki stated.
Kindiki underscored that the enactment of the new IEBC law is a positive step towards ensuring the stability of the country and promoting national unity. He believes that the upcoming forum will be instrumental in paving the way for solutions to the country’s most urgent issues.
President Ruto, in announcing the forum, stressed its importance, stating, “This forum will begin on Monday next week and end on Saturday. It will be a six-day forum and will propose the way forward for the country.” The President noted that the forum would bring together representatives from political parties, religious groups, civil society, employers, and youth.
